Sally Anne Struthers was born on July 28, 1947 in Portland, Oregon to Margaret Caroline (née Jones) and Robert Alden Struthers. Her father is a surgeon, and her mother is a housewife. Sue is her only sister.

Career
Sally Struthers debuted in the 1960s and rose to fame in the early 1970s. She had her first leading role in the 1970 film Five Easy Pieces, opposite Jack Nicholson. She made her film debut in The Getaway in 1972.
Struthers became known for her role as Gloria Stivic on the 1970s television sitcom All in the Family. When she appeared on the dance reality television show The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, she caught the attention of the show’s producer, Norman Lear.
Initially, Struther assumed that her role would be taken by Reiner’s fiancée at the time, Penny Marshall. Candice Azzara played Gloria briefly before she was kicked off the show.
