Sulakshana Sawant was an Indian politician, school teacher and social worker. She is the former president of the Mahila Morcha of the Goa State People’s Party and the wife of Pramod Sawant, the 13th Chief Minister of Goa.

In March 2016, she was elected as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party Mahira Morcha (Goa). As BJP president, one of her main agendas was to secure 33% reservation for women in the party. She even demanded that the reservation bill be passed in Parliament before the 2017 Goa elections. She said in an interview that for her, the country comes before the party. she says,
When we come from the Sangh, for us, country takes precedence over party. This sentiment of putting nation first is what the RSS has taught us. When one keeps this sentiment in mind when engaging in social work, or enters politics with the principle of country first, any work we do is for the country. “
