Sam Asghari wants the upcoming Britney Spears movie to live up to his ex-wife’s story.
On the red carpet for his new Prime Video movie, Jackpotbroadcast Aug. 15, Asghari, 30, shared his thoughts on the recently announced Spears biopic in an interview Tuesday, Aug. 13 with Party tonight.
“I just hope they have her approval and everything, and that they live up to her legacy, because she’s really strong,” he said of the film, which Spears, 42, announced she was working on on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Aug. 1 .

At the time, the “Toxic” singer wrote, “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies… stay tuned.”

Universal Pictures has bought the rights to Spears’ 2023 bestselling memoir The woman in me after what was a “highly competitive auction,” according to a press release. The cast of the film has not yet been announced, but Wicked director Jon M. Chu is in charge of directing the film, while Platt will produce.
When asked by ET if he had an actor in mind to play him in the film, Asghari said, “I’m really just focused on my craft.”
Asghari and Spears first started dating in 2017 before tying the knot in 2022. The two split in August 2023, but in April, Asghari told PEOPLE that he doesn’t regret his time with Spears.

“It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people separate and people move on,” he said at the time.

The actor continued: “I’ve always hated people who leave a certain relationship – and at some point they told each other they loved each other and were sitting at the same table eating food [together] — so I never understood when people split up [and] they talk bad about each other.”
“It’s something I’ll never do because I’ve just had an amazing experience and a great life, and it’s always going to be a part of my life, a chapter of my life,” Asghari added.
