In his last year of high school, he signed up for an open photography class. In an interview, he said:
In my last year of high school, I took an open photography class where we did a lot of work with film cameras and processed the film in a darkroom. This wasn’t anything new to me as I’d been learning about camera functions and editing in my spare time since I was about 10, but it was fun and did spark some creativity in me.”
In 2014, after completing his high school education, he took a year off to travel and gain experience as a freelance photographer. On May 3, 2011, he uploaded his first video titled “GOPRO HD and TWIXTOR 2000fps” on his YouTube channel kold. Since then, he has uploaded many videos of himself performing gymnastics, backflips and cliff diving in slow motion. He came into the spotlight as a travel vlogger after getting an opportunity to work with the American pop electronic DJ and production duo The Chainsmokers, who toured around the world. Sam Kolder worked exclusively as a videographer, shooting and editing most of the content produced during the tour. He also produced the lyric video for The Chainsmokers’ Roses ft. ROZES.

The turning point in Sam’s career came when he uploaded a video titled “War Against Poaching” (2018) which was intended to spread awareness for wildlife conservation. Soon after its release, the video helped raise more than $100,000 in charitable funds for VETPAW, a non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife conservation.
In his YouTube video, “Exploring Indonesia – The Last Paradise”, he talks about plastic pollution and encourages his fans and followers to keep clean in their travel destinations. In 2019, he served as the cinematographer for the documentary “The Lost Pyramid”, which follows a team’s journey through the Guatemalan jungle to climb the world’s largest pyramid.
