Sandeep Jakhar is an Indian politician, farmer, and social and political activist who until August 2023 served as a member of the Indian National Congress. He is the nephew of Punjab PPP chief Sunil Jakhar. On August 19, 2023, he was suspended from the Indian National Congress for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities.

In 2022, he will contest the Punjab Legislative Assembly elections from his family’s traditional seat of Abohar on the Indian National Congress ticket. He won the election by 5,471 votes and became the provincial councilor from Abohar. As MLA, Sandeep was involved in various important projects in Abohar. He established a government college, restored the canals that provided water for agriculture and drinking water, improved the Abohar Mandi and established a place dedicated to selling kinnow fruits. He also improved schools, established a new water supply system in the village, improved sewage management in Abohar, built sports stadiums, and repaired the city’s main roads.

He also launched a clean-up mission in his town with 11 volunteers, cleaning an area of Abuhar every Saturday. The project is called ‘Aaapka Abohar, Aapki Abha’. Slowly, many people started volunteering for the project, including doctors, teachers, lawyers, students and housewives. As part of the project, they collected and separated waste from the houses and stopped using plastic bags. On August 19, 2023, the Indian National Congress suspended Sandeep Jakhar from the party for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities. The action was taken following a complaint lodged by Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Waring. The suspension notice signed by Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) Secretary Tariq Anwar stated,
Punjab PCC chief complained that you are indulging in anti-party activities. “

Battle with Amrinder Singh Raja
In 2022, Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring clashed with Congress MP Sandeep Jakhar from Abohar. Their differences center on Sandeep’s close relationship with his uncle Sunil Jakhar, who switched from the Congress to the BJP. At a Congress event called Tiranga Yatra, Waring challenged Sandeep to leave the party and retain his seat if he truly believed he had support in Abha. Wallin criticized Jakhar and accused him of betraying the party. Waring also said Jakhar was reducing the chances of the Indian National Congress party in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Sandeep responded that Waring’s remarks showed immaturity. He asked Wolin not to violate party rules by making such immature remarks in the public sphere.
