Sandeep Singh, alias Kekda, is an Indian criminal. In 2022, he was accused of involvement in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case. On June 1, 2022, Kekda was arrested and appeared before the Mansa District Court and Sandeep was remanded in police custody until June 11, 2022.

Sandeep Singh hails from Karanvalli village in Sirsa district of Haryana. His father moved to the village a few years before he was born. According to neighbors, the Sandeep family did not interact much with the villagers. As a teenager, Sandeep was very keen on sports and played kabaddi. He won several medals and trophies in competitions. Initially, he worked as a worker with his father.

Sandeep Singh was a drug addict and had been involved in drug trafficking for many years (according to his family and villagers). In a media interview, Sandeep’s father Baldev revealed that Sandeep often beat his father after taking drugs. He further revealed that at one point he even kicked his father out of the house. His father said he persuaded him to kick his drug addiction. However, Sandeep did not interrupt and continued with his activities. His neighbor Gurpreet Singh revealed in a media chat that Sandeep used to smoke ‘Chitta’, a drug similar to heroin and cocaine.

Involved in Musewala murder case

On May 29, 2022, Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead by some unidentified assailants in Mansa district of Punjab. After his murder, several Indian gangsters including Goldy Brar, Sachin Bishnoi and Lawrence Bishnoi claimed responsibility for his murder through their respective Facebook accounts.

Later, during investigation, Mansa police came across a CCTV video in which Sidhu Moosewala could be seen taking a selfie with a group of people minutes before he was murdered. After further investigation, the police learned that Kekeda disguised himself as a fan, took several selfies with Musewala, and then passed information about Sidhu’s whereabouts to the gunman.

Police captured Kekda from Sirsa in June 2022 and produced him before the Mansa District Court. According to reports, the court remanded him in custody for 11 days. During interrogation, Sandeep revealed that he went to Musewala’s house with his friend Niku from the neighboring Sirsa Thahatmar village and took a selfie with him there. They stayed there for about 40 minutes. They then continued on their motorcycle and after walking a short distance, his friend got in the car and Kekeda left on his motorcycle. Soon, he passed the message to the gunman. He informed them about Sidhu’s movements and the absence of security personnel. He further told the police that he had been conducting reconnaissance on Musewala on the orders of the gunman for a long time.

Later, in a media interview, Sandeep’s father revealed that Sandeep’s aunt lived in Musa village in Mansa and Kekeda used to visit her house frequently. Baldev further said that Sandeep stayed away from home most of the time and last left home about two weeks ago.

Police said the gangsters consciously picked Kekeda for the job because he was familiar with his surroundings and had safe accommodation nearby. ADGP Pramod Ban, head of the Punjab Anti-Gangster Task Force, said in a media conversation,

Kekda, under the instructions of Goldy Brar and Sachin Thapan, pretended to be a fan of the singer to spy on the singer’s every move. Kekeda also clicked a selfie with the singer as she left her home minutes before she was murdered. “

Kekeda shared all the information, such as the singer not being accompanied by security, the number of passengers, vehicle details, and that he was traveling in a non-bulletproof vehicle while the gunmen and handlers were operating from abroad. “
