Sandhya Mukherjee is an Indian playback singer known for singing Bengali songs. She is also known for refusing to accept the Padma Award on the eve of Republic Day 2022.

Sandhya Mukherjee was born in Dhakuria, Kolkata on Sunday, October 4, 1931. He was 90 years old; time of death. Her zodiac sign is Libra. She studied at Dhakuria Balika Vidyalaya School in West Bengal and Binodini Girls High School in West Bengal. Her musical training was under the guidance of Pandit Santosh Kumar Basu, Prof. AT Kannan and Prof. Chinmoy Lahiri and she received training in Indian classical music from her mentor Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and later her son Ustad Munavvar Ali Khan.

She has sung Hindi songs in more than 17 films. Some of her popular Hindi songs include Aayee Mere Jeevan Ki Saanjh Suhani (1948), Bol Papihe Bol Kaun Hai Tera Chitchor (1951), Jungle Mangal (1953), Maine Jo Lee Angrayee Teri Mehfil (1956) and Tose Naina Laage Re Saanwariya (1966).

- In 1970, she won the National Film Award for Best Female Singer for the songs “Amader Chuti Chuti” from the film Jay Jayanti and “Ore Sakol Sona Molin Holo” from the film Nishi Padma.
- In 1972, she won the Best Female Vocalist Award for Jay Jayanti.
- In 1999, she received the Bharat Nieman Award – Lifetime Achievement Award.
- She won Banga Bibhushan in 2011.

- Sandhya is also known by other names such as Sandhya Mukhopadhyay and Gitashree Sandhya Mukherjee.
- In 1946, she topped the Gitashree exam.
- In 1952, after singing in Bombay for two years, she returned to her hometown of Calcutta. There she married Shamal Gupta, who wrote the lyrics for many of her songs.
- She collaborated with Bengali singer Hemanta Mukherjee and their collaboration is very famous in Bengali music industry. They have lent their voices to many popular Bengali songs, including those of Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen.
- In 1971, during the Bangladesh Liberation War, Sandia helped refugees from Calcutta and West Bengal. She also recorded patriotic songs with Bangladeshi musician Samar Das for Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra Radio to promote patriotism during Bangladesh’s Liberation War. She was also the first artist to visit Dhaka and performed on Bangladesh’s Independence Day in 1971.
