Harassment of junior female IPS officer
In February 2021, he served as a member of the security team of the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K. Palaniswami of the AIADMK party. On February 21, 2021, when he was appointed as Special DGP and traveling to Ulundurpet district in his official car, he harassed the junior female IPS officer who was traveling in the car with him. The victim filed an FIR with CBCID-North in Villupuram district alleging violation of Sections 354A(2), 341, 506(1) of IPC and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 1998 Provisions. Later, a committee was formed to investigate the allegations and found them to be true. The victim also wrote the name of the Superintendent of Police, Chengalpet, D Kannan to stop her from filing a complaint. After two years of hearings, on June 16, 2023, Villupuram Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) M Pushparani convicted Rajesh Das of sexual harassment under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women (Amendment) Act, 2002 》Convict him. He was fined on two counts of Rs 10,000 each and sentenced to two concurrent sentences of three years’ imprisonment. Rajesh was subsequently granted bail and appealed.
