Sandra Bullock's 2 Kids: Everything She's Said About Motherhood

The main priority in Sandra Bullock’s life is her children, Louis and Laila.

The Bird box the actress put her son and daughter up for adoption in her late 40s, and believes her children came at the perfect time.

“I don’t know why it was the only time, but I’m so glad the universe made me wait,” she said on Talk about the red table in 2022. “They made me wait even though I was anxious and impatient – and it went no, you’re not going to do it the way you think you’re going to.”

Raising her children has been a major source of pride for Sandra: she considers herself “lucky” to be able to watch them grow up, and to do so, she took a break from acting to be with them.

“I’m not retiring, I’m just not going to spend time in front of the cameras for a while. I have beautiful babies. I’d rather watch them,” said Sandra PEOPLE (TV show!) in 2022. “I’d rather look at them every day and be mad at me and be annoyed and make memories with them for now.”

From continuing to learn about her kids’ personalities to witnessing them bond with each other, here’s everything Sandra Bullock had to say about parenting her children, Louis and Laila.

Louis Bardo Bullock, 15

Sandra got her son Louis by adoption in January 2010 when he was 3 and a half months old.

Speaking with Todaythe Miss Congeniality the actress spoke about the connection she felt to him years before he was born in Louisiana. “Katrina happened in New Orleans and I knew – just something told me that my child was there. It was strange – she recalled.

When they met, Sandra described their current relationship to PEOPLE. “He’s just perfect, I can’t even describe him in any other way,” she said. – As if he was always a part of our lives.

These days, Louis is a “crazy foodie,” according to Sandra.

“He started out as a mixologist, he was very interested in mixing drinks,” she explained further Living with Kelly and Ryan in March 2022. “He had a cocktail book, no alcohol… then he started making boba… then he wanted to deep fry everything. Everything was sugar coated… for him it’s all based on food.”

Over the years, Sandra has said there are challenges to being a white mother of black children, but despite their different experiences, she has made an effort to talk with her children about racial injustice.

During her performance at Talk about the red tableshe shared her thoughts on Louis growing up and conquering the world on his own.

“Because Lou is a young black man, at some point sweet, funny Lou will become a young man,” Sandra said. “And the moment he leaves my home, I can’t follow him everywhere, though I’ll try… I pray and pray and pray that I’ve done a good enough job.”

Besides being cute and funny, Louis is also “super sensitive,” according to his mom.

“He’s like Shecky Greene, the Jewish Catskills comic,” Sandra joked In style 2018. “He is wise and kind, I saw that when he was handed over to me. There was spiritual greatness in him. I said, ‘I hope I don’t do that.’ ”

Lou’s wisdom extends to his career advice for Sandra, and she trusts his opinion. She recalled the case to Jimmy Kimmel when she was thinking about the film, and Louis advised her not to take the job.

“I wasn’t where Louis thought I should be… and he was actually right!” she said, noting that when the film came out, the reception was “unhappy.”

Although he is her unofficial manager, Louis doesn’t like watching his mom’s movies.

“I’m not his cup of tea,” she said, adding that he prefers Spider-Man or Japanese anime. “He is 11 years old and has very good taste.”

Laila Bullock, 11

Sandra completed her family in 2015 when she adopted a daughter Laila at the age of 2 and a half years.

“When I look at Laila, there is no doubt that she should have been here,” she told PEOPLE.

Her son was a big proponent of the addition, and Sandra said he “led the whole journey.” Louis quickly went to his new sister, who had previously been with a foster family in Louisiana, and expressed concern when Child Protective Services (CPS) came to visit.

“They were there to see if Laila was okay,” Sandra explained to PEOPLE. “He replied: ‘You’re not going to take her away, are you?’ And at that moment I knew I could stop worrying about whether I had found the right match. It was obvious that I was.”

Nevertheless, Sandra “knew [Laila] was scared … all I wanted was for her to know that Louis and I weren’t going anywhere,” she said, adding that her daughter brought “pink and glitter into the house mixed with Legos and Batmans.”

Aware of Laila’s early years, Sandra attended courses to support children in the foster care system, which helped the actress to become aware of Laila’s “triggers”. It also gave mom and daughter tools to navigate certain behaviors, like hiding in the closet.

“It was very difficult to separate and not be hurt because all you want is to love,” said Sandra on Talk about the red table times when she couldn’t comfort her child. “But guess what? Your love won’t stop it right then and there.”

Today, Laila has grown into her own person and in the process learned how to deal with conflicts. In 2022, Sandra told PEOPLE that she and Channing Tatum kept getting calls from their children’s daycare because Laila and Everly had a few falling outs.

“Our daughters have had a few struggles in school because they’re both very, very, very strong girls,” Tatum said. Vanity Fair 2023, explaining to the girls “love each other now”.

Laila’s personality is accompanied by great intelligence, according to her mother. In fact, Sandra believes her daughter will “be president of the United States” one day.

“It’s just a fact,” she continued PEOPLE (TV show!) in November 2021. “I’m going to do some remodeling [at the White House].”

Laila is also looking for adventure. “Everything is an extremely dangerous sport for her,” said Sandra Live! with Kelly and Ryan. In order to be happy while traveling, mom has to “find those elements” that she will enjoy.

Overall, Sandra describes her daughter as a “fighter” who is “simply not afraid.”

“Oh my God, what he’s going to accomplish,” Sandra said In style in June 2018. “She will bring real change.”
