Sandra Oh and Awkwafina on Bonding While Playing Sisters in Quiz Lady: ‘It Was So Cool’ (Exclusive Video)

Awkwafina and Sandra Oh make a dynamic duo!

In a new behind-the-scenes clip of the new 20th Century studio comedy Quiz Lady, which stars Awkwafina, 35, and Oh, 52, the actors talk about what it was like working together for the first time. In the new film, the pair play estranged sisters who reunite to try to eliminate their mother’s gambling debt by winning a game prize.

“I’m such a big fan of Sandra, actually playing sisters — it was so cool,” Awkwafina says of working with Oh.

Awkwafina plays Anne, a woman obsessed with the show, while Oh plays Jenny, her older sister who the official synopsis for the film describes as a “train wreck”.

“This is one of the best experiences of my career,” Oh recalls of the creation Quiz Lady. “I remember talking to Awkwafin and saying, ‘What do you think about me playing Jenny?’ And she said, ‘You can play whatever you want.’ ”

“When Anne’s beloved dog is kidnapped, they go on a wild, cross-country run to get the money the only way they know how: by turning Anne into a bona fide game champion,” reads the official synopsis.

Quiz Lady director Jessica Yu notes in a behind-the-scenes featurette that Quiz LadyThe two potential clients “know each other better than anyone.”

“The way they align with each other is quite spectacular,” she says.

“I think the improv went a little too far,” quips Awkwafina about Oh’s approach to comedy in the film. “At one point, Sandra put her foot in my mouth.”

Quiz Lady written by Jen D’Angelo, who wrote the screenplay for Hocus pocus 2 and a new Halloween-themed Kiernan Shipka Totally killer. D’Angelo has television experience having produced and written episodes workaholics and Young rock. She even appeared in a recent episode Awkwafina is Nora from Queens.

Oh and Awkwafina joins Will Ferrell, Jason Schwartzman, Holland Taylor and Tony Hale in the road trip comedy. Ferrell, 56, produced the film alongside Awkwafina, Oh, Jessica Elbaum, Maggie Haskins, Itay Reiss, D’Angelo and executive producers Alex Brown and Erika Hampson.

“I hope people get a little bit of how much fun it was to make it,” Oh says of the new film.

Quiz Lady begins streaming on Hulu on November 3.
