He is suspected in the murder of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Brahm Dutt Dwivedi. He is a close aide of Indian gangster and politician Mukhtar Ansari.

Sanjeev Maheshwari, alias “Jeeva,” worked as a compounder in a pharmacy in the 1990s. At that time, he kidnapped the pharmacy owner and demanded a huge ransom. Later, he was involved in kidnapping the son of a Kolkata businessman and demanding a ransom of Rs 2 crore. He also became a member of several gangs such as Nazim Gang of Haridwar, Satendra Barnala Gang and others. He and his criminal gang engaged in murder, robbery, extortion, kidnapping, robbery and fraud. More than 24 police cases have been registered against Sanjeev Jeeva in Uttar Pradesh police stations in Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Ghazipur, Farrukhabad and Hardwar districts. The police registered more than 22 cases against Sanjeev Jeeva under the Gangster Act 1986.
