Sarah Drew Details Her Mother-Daughter Swiftie Halloween Costume: 'I’m Gonna Be Taylor Swift's Superfan' (Exclusive)

Dressing up as Taylor Swift never goes out of style!

Actress Sarah Drew told PEOPLE at Diversity‘s Power of Women Event in Los Angeles on Thursday, Oct. 24, that she and her daughter Hannah, 9, will be channeling the pop star this year for Halloween.

“She’s going to be Taylor Swift and I’m going to be a Taylor Swift superfan,” Drew, 44, said.

The Grey’s Anatomy The alum is also planning a costume with her son Micah, 12, whom she called a “genius.”

“He’s a really amazing filmmaker and every year he comes up with a person he wants to be, but it’s not a specific character,” Drew explained. “This year he wants to be a ranger character from the game Dungeons and Dragons. He was building his own costume; he sews this cloak. I’ll also be a ranger, who looks like an elf warrior, and she’s pretty badass.”

Drew said she plans to buy “bits and pieces from Amazon and put them together” for her costume.

“I’m really excited about it,” she continued. “We turn into little costume designers. We are doing our best.”

While Drew enjoys getting ready for the holidays with her kids, she admitted that being a working mom has its challenges.

“The balance is crazy,” she said up front Diversity event held in partnership with Lifetime and brought together a group of philanthropic women in media and entertainment to recognize their impact. “I was gone for 10 weeks this summer filming a series I star in and executive produce, and it was really hard to leave the kids. But I have a very clear message when I tell them about it, and it’s: ‘I don’t like being away from you. I miss you when I’m away from you, but I really love what I do. And I feel like I’m living in my purpose when I can go do those things.’”

The mother of two explained that she tries not to be sad when she leaves her children for a business project. “If that was my position, then they would say, ‘Well, then why do it?'” Drew said. “I work very hard to tell them how much beauty and purpose and mission there is in doing this great work.”
