She got engaged to South Indian production assistant Binu Xavier on 21 April 2014 and married him on 26 October 2014 at the Sree Narayana Seva Sabha Temple in Kochi. They then had a grand reception at the Rotary Club Panambilly Nagar in Kochi, Kerala. It was reported that her husband left her when Sassi was diagnosed with a brain tumor and later there were rumors that Binu and Sassi divorced and Binu married another girl.

She made her debut as an actress in the Malayalam television serial “Sooryodayam” aired on Doordarshan in 2006. She appeared in Malayalam television serials such as “Harichandanam” (2010), “Avakashikal” (2011) and “Kootukari” (2014). She made her acting debut in the Malayalam film “Chacko Randaaman” in 2006. Some of her other Malayalam films include “Chotta Mumbai” (2007), “Thalappavu” (2008) and “Annamariya Kalippilanu” (2016).

In 2012, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent nearly 11 surgeries. She battled cancer for nearly a decade, causing her health to deteriorate. She was later tested positive for COVID-19 in May 2021, and after recovering, she was diagnosed with pneumonia and other respiratory illnesses. She failed to survive the illness and passed away on August 9, 2021, at a local hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed condolences on her death in a Facebook post. He wrote,
Sarania’s confidence throughout her battle with cancer has been an inspiration and optimism for our community. When Kerala was devastated by the monsoon, Sarania donated the money she would have spent on her treatment to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, showing her social responsibility and love for others. I share the grief of her friends and family.”
Facts/Trivia
- Her family and friends used to call her “Sharu”.
- Due to the illness, she faced huge financial losses and at that time, her best friend Seema Nair came to her aid and supported her mentally and financially.
- Saranya Sasi was a pious man.
- During the COVID-19 lockdown, she created a YouTube channel named “CityLights – Sharanya’s Vlog” on which she uploaded videos related to food recipes and personal life.
- She used to follow a non-vegetarian diet.
