Savannah Chrisley opens up about how she dealt with trauma.
During her latest episode Unlocked podcast, the Chrisley knows best alum revealed that she went to an “intensive therapy program” called Onsite twice, calling it a “game changer” and recalling what she learned from a journal she kept at the time.
“I think for me the only reason I went was to help me deal with the trauma,” she continued. “It’s like there are so many different types of trauma in my life from childhood to now.”
Chrisley, 26, said her first journal entry was dated around her birthday two years ago, and detailed her first week of therapy. In it, she shared that she learned that trauma can “survive the event because it lives in the body” — something she had experience with.
“You would see that with me, if something happened and something triggered it and I broke down or fell apart or went crazy, whatever it was, because you don’t realize that your body reacts before your mind reacts,” she explained.

The reality star went on to say that the trauma followed her for “almost 20 years of my life,” and before therapy, she found herself using past experiences “as an excuse for my bad behavior.”
She also said that one of the things she had to go through was finding “grace” in herself and others despite what she had been through in the past.
“I’ve been very open about my family dynamic and I’m not very good at grace,” Chrisley admitted. “There are some things I’m just not great at, like dealing with people who have wronged me. But also, understanding the family you come from allows you to have more grace.”
“So often, everyone wants to put up this perfect picture of my family… but the moment you see it for what it is, it’s the moment you’re allowed to even give yourself grace for your feelings about people or situations, which is hard,” she added. .

Savannah Chrisley admits she exhibits ‘codependency’ in ‘The Male Relationships in My Life’, including with dad Todd
Chrisley has previously spoken about the trauma she experienced around the time her family started filming their reality series, and opened up about her suicide attempt when she was 15 or 16.
“For me, it was more of a cry for help,” she recalled on her podcast. “It’s so crazy because when you go through that much trauma, I feel like your mind just blocks it out.”
However, Chrisley revealed that her parents Todd and Julie Chrisley “stepped up” in her plight.
“My dad spent countless hours with me every day, just trying to get me to talk,” she recalled. “He’s telling me his life stories, his traumas. He’s trying to let me know, like, ‘Hey, I’m not the perfect person you always thought I was. I’ve been through things in my life. I’ve been traumatized. I want you to feel comfortable. .’ And talking to me about it and I needed time.”
