His heartbroken family say they have “no idea what happened” after the tragedy unfolded.

Freddie’s mum Cerys Pritchard, 34, said in an emotional tribute: “It was such a shock. Traveling home after a holiday and never coming home with him is the worst feeling in the world.

“My beautiful boy Freddie got his angel wings. It was completely sudden and a huge shock not only to us, but to the extended family and all of Freddie’s friends.

“He is our world and we will miss him dearly as will many others. Freddie attended All Saints School in Gresford and made so many friends in all year groups and loved the things they did with the church.

“Freddie is a huge football fan and followed Liverpool FC and Wrexham, but loved football in general and had many international/European shirts.

“Freddie has been a big part of Gresford Athletic over the years and has followed and supported his brother from the day he was born and loved the fact that he followed in his brother’s footsteps, from the moment he walked he had a football at his feet and over the years he developed a hell of a left foot kick.

“Freddie will always be with us cheering on his favorite teams and teammates at every game.

“Sleep in peace our little angel. We love you so much. As a family we want to thank everyone for their love and support.”

The Year 5 pupil was described as “friends with everyone” and loved spending time with mum Cerys, dad Wayne, his big brother Charlie, 17, and friends.

Freddie, from Rossett, Wrexham, played for Gresford Athletic under-10s.

All the club’s teams observed a minute of silence in his memory this weekend.

There was also a minute’s applause in the 14th minute of the under-10 match in memory of the boy who wore number 14.

Coach Matt Williams said: “As a coaching team, we have worked with Freddie since he was six years old when he started his football journey with GAJFC.

“We’ve seen Freddie blossom as a player, a teammate and a nice person. Freddie was a loved member of the team and was developing into a good footballer with a fierce left foot, who scored many goals for us.

“Freddie will be greatly missed by coaches, players and parents, but he will always be with us in our hearts and will not be forgotten.”

An investigation is expected, and the cause of Freddie’s death has not yet been confirmed.

Headteacher Richard Hatwood of All Saints School said: “Our school and wider community have been devastated this week by the tragic death of one of our Year 5 pupils, Freddie Pritchard.

“Never without a smile, Freddie was everything and more that we could wish for from a student at our school.

“A happy, polite and polite boy who was friends with the students of the whole school, both young and old.

“This morning we attended a special service at All Saints Church with Reverend Emma and Father Huw and we continue to extend our deepest sympathies and wishes to Freddie’s family and friends at this tragic time.

“Our school will be closed on the day of Freddie’s funeral and when we know that date I will share this with you.

“I could not be more proud of every single member of our school community. The love, care and support shown this week has helped us all get through this very, very difficult time.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family.

Organizer Jessica Tomlinson wrote: “As many of you may know we have lost a very precious family member, little Freddie who sadly passed away unexpectedly on Saturday 14th September on his way back from a wonderful family holiday.

“He was only 9 years old. As you can imagine this has been a devastating loss for our family and life will never be the same without his cheeky antics.

“My sister Cerys, brother-in-law Wayne and Freddie’s brother Charlie are struggling to cope with their loss so I’m looking for any way I can to help and I don’t want them to worry about the financial side of things with everything they’re going through.

“All donations will help cover the costs of Freddie’s funeral and donations will also be made to Cheshire Ambulance Service, The Countess of Chester Hospital and Alder Hey (Snow drop flats) for taking such good care of our beautiful Fred and supporting my sister and family through this difficult time.

“Freddie touched so many hearts and was a huge football fan. He supported many international/European football teams, especially his hometown Wrexham and Liverpool FC and played for Gresford Athletics. The football community were absolutely amazing holding a minute’s silence and applause.

“We would also like to thank Borris Park Albion Football Club and Brymbo Lodge Youth Football Club for your monetary donations. You really touched all our hearts last week.

“Thank you all for your support and kind words.”
