WORLD WORLD golfer Scottie Scheffler has been arrested and is facing four charges including second-degree assault on a police officer.
The pro, 27, was taken into dramatic custody by police outside the PGA Championship today – just hours before he was due to play.

The Masters winner was arrested by Louisville Metro Police as he tried to drive his car into the gate of this week’s PGA Championship — reportedly around the site of a fatal bus crash.
Scottie Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault on a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and failure to obey a traffic signal of an officer directing traffic.
The golfer was seen on video wearing a light blue shirt, dark shorts and sneakers with his hands handcuffed behind his back as officers led him to a police car parked outside Valhalla Golf Club.
He appeared stony-faced, wearing a bright orange prison uniform, in a photo taken at the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections that officers released Friday afternoon.
Scheffler was taken into custody after allegedly ignoring police commands and driving through an area where officers were investigating the death.
A pedestrian had earlier been struck and killed by a shuttle bus while crossing Shelbyville Road in a line dedicated to tournament traffic.
He tragically died at around 5am and was pronounced dead at the scene, with officers and paramedics still at the scene by 6.45am.
ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington said he watched as the officer screamed at the athlete to stop driving and at one point latched onto the side of the vehicle, which had PGA Championship insignia on the door.
After about 20 or 30 seconds, Scheffler rolled down his window to talk to the officer — who pulled the golfer out of his car, pushed him against the vehicle and handcuffed him, according to Darlington.
The reporter claimed that Scheffler looked at him and said, “Please help me,” before the officer ordered Darlington to move.
Darlington said the officer told him, “You’ve got to get out of the way. Right now, he’s going to jail, and there’s nothing you can do.”
The world number 1 golfer was supposed to start the second round of the tournament at 8:48 this morning.
‘Unreal’ moment Scottie Scheffler hits 167-yarder with just his second shot since taking 3 weeks off to become a dad
The video shows the golfer being led to a police car, lights flashing red and blue, before being ushered into the back seat.
Traffic was backed up for about a mile in each direction on the only road leading to Valhalla Golf Club and didn’t start until just before 7am.
ESPN reported that Louisville police released Scheffler.
The PGA Championship announced that play would be delayed due to the bus accident, with the second round set to begin an hour and 20 minutes later than the scheduled start time – meaning Scheffler was not due to start until shortly after 10am.
Whether Scheffler plays is up to him, his lawyer said.
Scheffler’s arrest came just weeks after he was crowned Masters champion with his four-stroke victory at Augusta National.
It was the second time a golfer had won The Masters in just three years, justifying his status as pre-tournament favorite by winning the Green Jacket.
The image of golf’s most driven star in handcuffs will shock fans around the world
Pictures of Scottie Scheffler being led away to prison in handcuffs will shock the golf world, because no one has a cleaner image than the world No.1, writes David Facey.
Scheffler’s arrest for allegedly speeding past a police car on his way to the start of the second round of the USPGA Championship goes against everything this God-fearing family man stands for.
The fact that this happened just a week after his wife, Meredith, gave birth to their first child, Bennett, makes it all the more shocking.
Scheffler and Ryder Cup teammate Sam Burns host a Bible group attended by other PGA Tour players and caddies, and there has never been a hint of scandal with the 27-year-old.
Before returning to action on the USPGA – after a three-week break to enjoy being a first-time dad – Scheffler spoke about how blissfully happy his life is now.
He said: “At home it was a good time to reflect a bit on my career so far and where my life has gone.
“I married my high school sweetheart and always wanted to play professional golf, and of course I did, winning two Masters and becoming world No. 1.
“When I was at home, I was sitting with a newborn in my arms and a green jacket in the closet. I think it was a pretty special time.”
One moment of madness, or confusion, could turn his world upside down.
