Scotty McCreery Stops Concert After Seeing Man Allegedly Hit Woman in the Audience: ‘Is She Okay?’

Scotty McCreery paused his concert to help a patron.

Former american idol winner stopped singing when he saw a man allegedly assaulting a woman in the audience at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, Colo., on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Concertgoer Jessica Rosario posted a video of McCreery, 30, pausing the show at the beginning of her performance of “It Matters To Her.”

“Scotty was talking about his wife [Gabi Dugal’s] favorite song in this video,” Rosario tells PEOPLE exclusively. “As he began to sing, he noticed a man who allegedly hit a woman and interrupted the performance and was escorted away by security.”

A rep for McCreery told PEOPLE that the singer declined to comment on the incident.

“Over here, that’s the lady you just hit, sir,” McCreery said in the video, pointing to someone in the audience. “Absolutely not, you just hit a lady. Police? Security? Is she okay? Get out of here.”

“On God’s green earth. At a Scotty McCreery show? what are you doing?” he said shortly after calling out the alleged attacker. “Tell the police officer who hit the lady. This is absolutely unacceptable.”

“Do we have them? Is it okay down there?” he asked security before concluding: “Whoever you are, that’s the definition of a coward, hitting on a lady. Get out of here.” He then addressed the crowd before continuing his set.

People at the front of the crowd pointed to the person who was eventually escorted out. The identities of the man and woman have not been made public, nor has the man been arrested.

Robak says Colorado State Fair security has helped control crowds. “This incident is still under investigation and we cannot comment further.”
