‘Scream’ Creator on Getting Neve Campbell Back to Franchise ‘One Day’: ‘Give Her the Money!’

Kevin Williamson is hoping for the return of Neve Campbell Scream.

The Scream the screenwriter, 58, revealed in an episode of the series Happy horror time podcast that while he understands why the actress, 49, did not star in the latest entry in the film series, she hopes she will eventually return.

“I completely respect her opinion,” Williamson said of Campbell’s decision not to pursue films due to a pay dispute with the studio. “I know exactly where she’s coming from. I know her well.”

“I love and adore her, and that’s what she did,” he added. “That’s how he is for her.”

However, he noted that if the negotiations succeed, he would like to see her on screen again as her icon Scream again in the role of Sidney Prescott.

The directors of ‘Scream VI’ say they are ‘not giving up’ on the return of Neve Campbell to the franchise

“I love everyone involved in Scream and all i can say is pay her money. That’s what I would do, I would give it to her [money],” he said. “I’m sure there’s a number they can agree on that will make them both happy. So hopefully one day they’ll figure it all out.”

Campbell revealed in June 2022 that she would not be returning to the sixth Scream and explained her “very difficult decision” in a statement at the time.

“As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my worth, especially when it comes to Scream,” she said. “I felt that the offer that was presented to me was not equal to the value that I brought to the franchise.”

After the decision, she told PEOPLE in August 2022 that several of hers Scream costars reached out to express their support for her decision.

She also doubled down on her decision to leave the longtime franchise saying it was “really” just about “negotiations.”

“I didn’t feel like what I was being offered equaled the value that I bring to this franchise, and I’ve brought it to this franchise for 25 years,” she told PEOPLE at the time.

“As a woman in this business, I think it’s very important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued,” she continued. “Honestly, I don’t believe that I would have been a man and done five installments of a big blockbuster franchise over 25 years if the number that was offered to me was the number that would have been offered to a man. And in my heart, I just couldn’t do it.”

However, she gave some fans a glimmer of hope by saying that her future with the franchise isn’t completely set in stone.

“I don’t know if I’m done for good,” she said. “It would really depend on what they come to us with next time. It would have to be different. It would have to be a different attitude, and I’m not sure that’s going to happen.”
