See Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix in New Photos from Upcoming Joker Musical Sequel

Todd Phillips shares a new look at Joker: Folie á Deux for holidays.

Phillips, who worked with Joaquin Phoenix at the 2019 Oscars. Jokershared two new pictures on Instagram of Phoenix, 49, in the upcoming sequel.

In one image, Phoenix, who plays Arthur Fleck aka the Joker in the films, can be seen on the other side of a door, while his co-star Lady Gaga looks towards him in another image.

“Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a great new year,” Phillips wrote in the caption.

Folie á Deux should be in theaters on October 4th, which is also Jokerfifth anniversary. Phillips celebrated the four-year anniversary of the first film in October. At the time, Phillips shared a picture of Phoenix standing in the rain surrounded by a variety of different colored umbrellas.

“Four years ago we had a good ride. Lots of great memories. More to come,” he wrote at the time.

Joker set box office records upon release in 2019; a sequel is officially confirmed for June 2022. That same month, PEOPLE confirmed that Gaga, 37, was in talks to play Dr. Harleen “Harley Quinn” Quinzel, though the character is expected to take a different form than Margot Robbie’s in Suicide Squad (2016), Birds of prey (2020) and Suicide Squad (2020).

First Joker The film followed Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a failed clown and stand-up comedian who turns violent and inadvertently incites city unrest in Gotham while taking on the role of the Joker. While the story of the sequel remains unclear, it will be a musical.

Phillips documented Folie á Deuxprogress over the past year on Instagram since sharing a picture of Phoenix in character on the first day of filming in December 2022. Gaga was seen filming scenes for the movie in New York back in March, where she starred alongside hundreds of extras at Manhattan’s City Hall.

Gaga and Phillips confirmed principal photography for the sequel wrapped in April, when both shared images of the pop star-turned-actress and Phoenix in clown makeup on their respective Instagram pages.

“That’s it. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew the movie industry has to offer. Top to bottom,” Phillips wrote in the caption. “Now I’m going to crawl into the cave (room arrangement) and put it all together.”

Gaga wrote: “That’s good ❤️‍🔥 🎬🃏 X, Harleen.”

Joker: Folie á Deux is released on October 4.
