PEOPLE has an exclusive never-before-seen deleted scene from the Disney film, which stars LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Chase Dillon and Winona Ryder.

Haunted palace follows a single mother (Rosario Dawson) and her son Travis (Dillon) as they move into a New Orleans mansion in search of a fresh start.

Their move gets off to a rocky start, and she quickly recruits a team of unusual experts to help them rid themselves of the mansion’s supernatural elements: tour guide Ben Matthias (Stanfield), psychic Harriet (Tiffany Haddish), priest Father Kent (Owen Wilson) and historian Bruce Davis ( Danny DeVito). The film also stars Jared Leto and Jamie Lee Curtis, with cameo appearances by Ryder and Dan Levy.

‘Haunted Mansion’ director on how Winona Ryder’s ‘Delightfully Weird’ happened: ‘Felt so good’

Director Justin Simien previously said he wanted to pay homage to all that is spooky and quirky about the Disney Parks attraction, which led him to enlist Ryder to join him for a cameo. Simien, 40, knew the film needed someone from “the beginning,” and was eager to evoke a sense of nostalgia from her brief cameo role.

“Carmen Cuba, the casting director, myself and the studio were thrilled with this idea of ​​including classic faces in these cameo roles, and it was so good for me that she would be the tour guide at the end of the film,” said the director. The Hollywood Reporter.

Simien also said Diversity his time working at Disneyland was “the best summer job” he ever had. “I used to ride through a haunted palace on breaks,” the director said. “There was something about that ride that I felt existed in the script. I wanted to make sure all the Easter eggs were there because I’m a geek.”
