Seepersad Naipaul (1906-1953) was an Indo-Trinidadian writer and journalist.

Seepersad Naipaul was born in rural Trinidad and Tobago in 1906 (died 49 years old). Seepersad Naipaul was the first Trinidadian journalist of Indian origin to work for the Trinidad Guardian. Seepersad Naipaul died in 1953 in St. James, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Seepersad Naipaul’s husband, Droapatie Naipaul, belonged to the influential Hindu Indo-Trinidadian Capildeo family. He is the father of six children, including Savi Naipaul, Sati Bisundas, Mira Naipaul and Nalini Naipaul.
Profession
He authored a book called The Adventures of Gurudeva, a collection of interrelated comic short stories. The book was first published in Trinidad and Tobago in 1943 under the title Gurudeva and Other Indian Stories. Sipersad was eager for his son (whom he affectionately called “Vido”) to publish the book in London so that the income could help lift the family out of poverty. However, the book was not published in London until after Sipersad’s death. Gillon Aitken edited and published a book in 1999 called Between Fathers and Sons: Family Letters. It includes correspondence between VS Naipaul and other family members, as well as Seepersad, from the time Vidia received a scholarship to Oxford to the time of Naipaul’s death. The New Yorker published an excerpt from the book.
