Seinfeld Star Peter Crombie Dead at 71: ‘a Kind, Giving, Caring and Creative Soul’

Peter Crombie, best known for his roles in Seinfeld and House of Frankenstein, died. He was 71 years old.

Crombie’s ex-wife Nadine Kijner shared her “shock and utter sadness” when she announced her husband’s death on Instagram on Wednesday.

“It is with shock and great sadness that I announce that my ex-husband died this morning,” Kijner began the post. “Thank you for so many wonderful memories and for being such a good person. Fly free to the Boundless Source of Light, Peter. May your parents and Oliver greet you with love πŸˆβ€β¬›”, Kijner began her tribute.

In addition to his touching tribute, Kijner posted photos of her and Crombie on their wedding day. In the footage, the couple embraced during the wedding and kissed under a white altar decorated with tulle. Crombie fed Kijner a piece of wedding cake in another sweet snap together.

Crombie β€” who is widely known for his Seinfeld character “Crazy” Joe Davolo, the person who constantly terrorized Jerry Seinfeld β€” died after a brief illness Wednesday morning, Kijner told TMZ on Friday. No further details about his death have been released at this time.

Kijner did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for additional comment. Representatives for Crombie could not immediately be reached.

Crombie’s first role, according to IMDB, was in a 1987 TV movie Broken vows. He continued to act in various TV shows, including miniseries House of Frankenstein (1997), LA Firefighters (1996), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993), Law and order (1991), i As the world turns (1989).

The actor also acted in films Born killers (1994) and Born on the 4th of July (1989).

Crombie’s last role was in 2000 as Detective Moody in the TV series Walker, Texas Rangeraccording to IMDB.

Friends paid tribute to the late actor on social media after the news of his death.

Friend and comedian Lewis Black wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): β€œI am heartbroken by the passing of my good friend Peter Crombie. He was a gifted artist. He was not only a wonderful actor but also an immensely talented writer. More importantly, he was as sweet as he was intelligent, and I am a better person for knowing him.”

Friend Bill Stetz wrote on Facebook: β€œIt is with a heavy heart that I announce today that my good friend Peter Crombie has passed away. To those who knew him, he was a gentle and loyal friend with soft words and expressive acting and writing. Rest in peace Peter.”
