Seinfeld’s Michael Richards to Release New Memoir in 2024 (Exclusive)

Michael Richards is back in the public eye. Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian — best known for his role as Kramer in Seinfeld — revealed exclusively to PEOPLE that he will publish a memoir next year. In and outpublished by Permuted Press, is due to be published in June 2024.

“I am delighted to introduce myself to the world In and outthe long-awaited memoir by Michael Richards, whose antics as Cosmo Kramer on Seinfeld they have entertained generations of viewers and left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape,” says Anthony Ziccardi, publisher of Permuted Press, in a statement shared with PEOPLE.

In his book, Richards (74) will share previously untold stories from his life, including being raised by his schizophrenic grandmother. He also writes about his time in the United States Army after being drafted in 1970, and how he found his voice in theater at a young age. The experience helped shape his career, from comedy appearances alongside Robin Williams and Jay Leno to his breakthrough role in Seinfeld. Richards also provides a behind-the-scenes look at the development of Kramer’s character and his lasting impact on pop culture. He gives an insider’s perspective on creating the show’s signature comedy along with the cast, writers and guest stars. Series creator Jerry Seinfeld also wrote the book’s foreword. Richards will also address his “disgraceful” outburst in 2006, when he was filmed shouting racial epithets at an audience during a stand-up show in Los Angeles. After the incident, Richards kept his life mostly private. The incident led him on a “lifelong spiritual quest” as well as a search for responsibility.
