Selena Gomez Says Acting Has 'Always Been' Her 'First Love': 'Music Is Just a Hobby That Went Out of Control'

New music is not a top priority for Selena Gomez right now.

In a new interview for the cover with Vanity FairThe 32-year-old singer and actress spoke about preparations for the release of a new song for her upcoming film Emilia Perez and why this is the only music he currently plans to release.

“I don’t know if I’m ready, you know?” said Gomez, whose latest single, “Love On,” was released in February and peaked at No. 56 on The Billboard Hot 100. Her latest full-length album, Rarelywas released in 2020, followed the following year by her Grammy-nominated Spanish-language EP, Revelation.

“It’s a vulnerable space,” she told the music outlet. “Acting has always been my first love. Music is just a hobby that got out of hand.”

However, Gomez is not giving up on music. “It’s part of who I am now, so I don’t think I’m going anywhere,” she said. “I’m just not ready yet.”

For now, fans will make do with the musician’s upcoming Spanish-language “Hands to Myself” in Emilia Perezcreated by French singer and songwriter Camille with Clément Ducol. “I can sing Spanish very well,” Gomez said, speaking of her work Revelation.

The Spring Breakers the actress made her television debut as a child in Barney & Friends 2002, followed by her first film role in Spy Kids 3-D: Endgame next year.

Selena Gomez calls the singing Emilia Perez ‘Therapeutic’: ‘It’s not the way I normally sing’

In a recent Q&A with Emilia Perez at the Telluride Film Festival on Sept. 1, Gomez said that singing in the upcoming film is “therapeutic.”

When asked about the process of learning her character Jessa Del Monte’s song, “Mi Camino,” she explained, “It was actually a completely different song.”

“It sounded a little rougher and during, you know, working intimately with Camille on the song, it became almost like a ballad,” Just the murders in the building said the star. “It was more of a story about a woman and the stages of life she goes through and it was just beautiful.”
