Selma Blair Says Son Arthur Watched Her Film Cruel Intentions for the First Time: ‘I Was Like, Oh Dear’ (Exclusive)

Selma Blair’s son Arthur recently watched his first movie starring his mom.

The Legal blonde actress, 52, revealed to PEOPLE at the Emmy Nominees Dinner on Friday, Sept. 13, that her teenage son refused to watch any of her movies for the longest time — until he saw 1999. Cruel intentions with his girlfriend.

“I was talking to my son and I said, ‘What did you do with your girlfriend this weekend?’ He says: ‘We watched Cruel intentions.’ I couldn’t get him to ever watch my film,” Blair recalls.

“I mean, I tried, he never looked. But with a girl, he will watch Cruel intentionsand I said, ‘Oh, God,'” she adds, noting that it’s a “sexy movie.”

She says her son, who she shares with ex Jason Bleick, even mimicked one of the film’s more explicit gestures and asked her about it — putting her on the spot.

“He says, ‘Mom, what was that?’ Because my character Cecile does that,” Blair explains. “It was mean. It was mean, I mean.”

However, she tells PEOPLE that her son still enjoyed the movie.

“It still stands,” she adds of the film, which also stars Reese Witherspoon and her longtime best friend Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Earlier this month, the actress opened up to PEOPLE about raising teenagers, as Arthur turned 13 in July. She admitted that “the teenage years happened.”

“No, he’s 13, and you’d think he was 17,” she said. “And he’s a child I’ll have to learn to take better care of. Because I love him very much.”

She’s not only proud of her son, but also of her past films, as she told PEOPLE earlier this month that she watches two of her most popular movies “all the time.”

“It was one of the most beautiful films,” she said Cruel intentions praising his wardrobe. “It’s still going on. It still holds. And I love that. And I love everyone in that lineup.”
