Serena Williams Shares Weight Training Workout: ‘Back into the Swing of Things’

Serena Williams relaxes in the gym.

Since giving birth to her second child in August, Williams, 42, has been slowly getting back into exercise — and documenting the process for her 17 million Instagram followers.

The retired tennis star’s latest video shows her performing barbell squats with less weight than usual.

“Okay, getting back into the swing of things,” the 23-time Grand Slam champion said in her Jan. 26 Instagram Reel, set to the soundtrack of hip-hop artist Don’s “My Name Is.” “This isn’t my usual weight, but it’ll do until I get back to where I need to be.”

After a few squats, Williams declared with a laugh, “I feel good,” before putting the weight back on the rack and letting out a “whoa!”

The video comes five months after Williams gave birth to daughter Adira River, her second child with husband Alexis Ohanian, a tech entrepreneur. They welcomed their first daughter, Alexis Olympia, in 2017.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion often records videos and photographs herself during training. In an Instagram caption on Dec. 26, she joked about the amount of time she spends taking selfies.

“I spend 50% of my time in the gym taking selfies,” Williams wrote. “I’m trying to get that perfect angle, that angle that makes me look kidnapped 😫. Well I found that angle so don’t look the other way when I’m a tad fatter in person lol 😂.”

In addition to this squat video, Williams recently posted about a Jan. 12 inner thigh workout — set to “Eye of the Tiger” from Survivor — and a Dec. 30 outdoor hike.

Sometimes her daughters are included in her exercises.

In October, just two months after giving birth, Williams posted a photo of herself doing sit-ups with a little helper by her side.
