Police are still investigating the scene of the accident, but it appears to be an accident.
Footage shared online shows a heavy presence of firefighters at the scene.
Herald Square is a vibrant shopping district in the heart of Midtown.
At that location is the main Macy’s department store, where thousands of tourists flock to see the store’s Christmas decorations.
Dean Moses, a reporter for amNewYork, was on the scene and got video of a stopped taxi that he said “jumped the curb.”
An eyewitness also told Moses that the taxi’s wheels were still turning after it stopped.
