Sex Education’s Otis and Maeve Master the Delicate Art of Long-Distance Sexting in Frisky Final Season Trailer

Grab the tissues, Sexual education it’s coming to an end!

Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee-Lou Wood, Emma Mackey, Connor Swindells and Gillian Anderson are preparing to say goodbye to the hit comedy series which returns on September 21 with new additions Dan Levy, Hannah Gadsby and Jodie Turner-Smith. And now, thanks to Netflix, there’s finally a full-length trailer teasing the show’s fourth and final season.

The fourth season of the show, set in England, begins with Otis Milburn of Butterfield, Eric Effiong of Gatwa and Maeve Wiley of Mackey going through their last year of high school.

After the closure of their former high school, Moordale Secondary, Eric and Maeve embrace their new chapters, while Otis struggles to regain his position as the school’s underground sex therapist at Cavendish Sixth Form College.

In the previous three seasons, Otis and Maeve worked together as same-sex therapists for their former high school. But over time they caught feelings for each other and started exploring their relationship from time to time over the years.

As the third season drew to a close, so did their high school. But Maeve saw the closure as a time to move to a completely new country and continue her education in the US. However, Otis and Maeve also act risky while apart.

In the trailer, Maeve sends Otis a nude photo of herself and asks him to return the favor. But Otis, even after making an effort to land the right shot, spooked and left Maeve stranded.

As Otis continues to deal with the changes in their relationship, he’s also adjusting to his new school—and his new sibling. After Anderson’s Jean gives birth in the second half of Season 3, mother and son cautiously adjust to their growing family.

In a tense scene between Otis and Jean, the trailer reveals Otis bargaining with his mother, succinctly saying, “I know it’s been hard! But I still need a mom.”

As Otis faces the reality that he is no longer an only child or the only sex therapist at his college, his friends accept what lies ahead.

As Eric continues to pick up the pieces after breaking up with Swindells’ Adam, Maeve takes on her new education with strong motivation, getting help from her new professor, played by Dan Levy.

As Meat Loaf’s “I’d do anything for love (but I won’t do it)” makes the announcement, fans get a glimpse of the characters’ chaotic adjustment to their new environment. And for many of them, sex is still a very important aspect of everyday life. At one point, Gatwin’s Eric has an intimate moment with a new sexual partner, while Wood’s Aimee tests out a new vibrator.

However, at the heart of it all, the trailer for the final season teases how the characters prepare to navigate what lies ahead.

“You should try to enjoy the journey,” says Otis. “It doesn’t last forever.”
