Elon Musk and Grimes Used IVF to Conceive Their First Baby, Son X Æ A-Xii, New Book Reveals

Elon Musk and Grimes share new details about their parenting journey.

In his new biography of the SpaceX founder titled Elon MuskWalter Isaacson profiles the tech entrepreneur and talks about his 11 children, including his three with ex Grimes, 35. While writing about the couple’s first child, son X Æ A-Xii “X,” Isaacson revealed the couple used in vitro fertilization (IVF) to help them conceive.

“Musk and Grimes, who got pregnant [X] through in vitro fertilization, they planned to have a girl, but the fertilized egg that was implanted while preparing to go to Burning Man 2019 turned out to be a boy,” Isaacson wrote.

He then revealed that Grimes and Musk, 52, struggled until the last second to choose a name for the boy. “Until the day he was born, they had trouble choosing a name for the boy,” the author shared.

Grimes says Elon Musk sent her a photo of her having a C-section with son X

Musk and Grimes have three children – sons X, 3, and Techno Mechanicus, and daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, 22 months, whom they call Y.

In Isaacson’s biography, the public first learned about the couple’s third baby, which remained a secret until its publication. Representatives for Musk and Grimes did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment at the time.

In the same bio, Grimes shared more details about giving birth to X, revealing that Musk took a photo of the singer while she was having a C-section and sent it to their friends and family, including Grimes’ father and brothers.

“He just didn’t know why I would be upset,” Grimes told Isaacson.

In March 2022 vanity fair In an interview revealing the birth of Exe Dark, Grimes admitted the former couple wanted more babies, telling the tabloid: “We always wanted at least three or four.”

But on the day the article was published, the “Genesis” singer tweeted that the couple had broken up again.

In addition to the three children he shares with Grimes, Musk is also the father of six children with his ex-wife, Canadian writer Justine Wilson. He is also father to 22-month-old twins Strider and Azure with Neuralink CEO Shivon Zilis.
