Shaan was born as “Shantanu Mukherjee” on Saturday, September 30, 1972, in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh (age 49; as of 2021). His zodiac sign is Libra.
He spent his childhood in the Bandra area among mostly Catholics. He attended a Jesuit school in Bandra. He received musical training from Ghulam Mustafa Khan.
He also took classes at Suresh Wadkar’s Ajivasan Music Academy. After discovering that his grades were unsatisfactory, he skipped the exam out of embarrassment and did not continue attending classes at the college.

As a child, Shaan began his career by singing jingles for commercials. Then he took a short break. He returned and continued singing the songs and began singing remixes and covers of the songs. At the age of 17, he sang a line from the song “Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari Dosti Hamari” in the film Parinda (1989). He and his sister then signed with Magnasound Records. Shaan has composed music and lyrics for his albums Loveology, Tanha Dil, Aksar and Tishnagi. He made his acting debut with the film “Tarkieb (2000)”. - During his initial days in the industry, Shaan was known by the name “Raja” which was also his nickname. Talking about changing his pen name from ‘Raja’ to ‘Shaan’, he said –
