Shakira Says She's 'Not Thinking' About Dating: 'What Space Do I Have for a Man Right Now?'

Dating is the last thing on Shakira’s mind right now.

The world music star (47), who will start a world tour in November, makes it clear that he is “not thinking” about finding a romantic partner anytime soon.

“How much room do I have for a man right now?” she expressed in the new Rolling stone cover story. Her perspective is greatly influenced by her children, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9, who she shares with ex-partner Gerard Piqué.

The singer and the former footballer were together for 11 years before announcing their separation in June 2022.

After the breakup, there were rumors that the athlete was cheating on her with his current girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti.

“What can I tell you, I like men. That’s the problem. I shouldn’t like them with everything that’s happened to me, but imagine how much I love men if I still like them,” Shakira joked to the outlet. “But if I were to have a formal relationship, I think my children would have to be very ready for it, and their emotional and psychological well-being is a priority.”

Although she said she’s “not against having friends,” Shakira ultimately focused on her independence.

“I’m so much less fragile than I thought. I was always so afraid of pain because I thought I wouldn’t survive it,” she said. “Through this process, I’ve become stronger than I thought I was. I’ve become a more independent person, one who doesn’t rely on anyone but herself and her wolf pack.”

When the Grammy winner was released Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran in March, she cited being alone as one of the main reasons she was able to work on the complete piece of music.

“I played music here and there, but it was very difficult for me to put together an opus,” she said during a guest appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that same month.

“I didn’t have time. It was the husband-factor,” she added. “Now I’m without a husband. Yes, my husband dragged me down. Now I’m free. Now I can actually work.”
