Shalini Yadav is an Indian politician from Varanasi. She became a household name in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when she contested against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi constituency.

Profession
While working in fashion designing, Shalini was called into the party by the Congress high command. She made it into the Congress; as her husband, Arun Yadav had strong connections in the Congress. Soon after entering the Congress, Shalini was appointed as the mayoral candidate of Varanasi in 2017. Although she lost, she received about 140,000 votes.

However, during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Shalini had differences with the Congress party and left the party to join the Samajwadi Party in April 2019. The Samajwadi Party named her as its Lok Sabha candidate against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi.

Earlier, rebel BSF Jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav was better suited than Shalini Yadav to contest against Narendra Modi from Varanasi, but Tej Bahadur’s candidature was canceled for giving false information in the affidavit and finally Shalini Yadav got a ticket to Varanasi.
