Shania Twain Talks 20-Lb Dresses, Wigs and Losing Her Virginity as She Kicks Off Latest Vegas Run (Exclusive)

Shania Twain kicked off her third residency in Las Vegas on Friday, May 10, and she blew the crowd away!

The first night of the Come on Over residency at Planet Hollywood’s Bakkt Theater wasn’t just high-energy, it was personal — so personal that the country superstar, 58, told the opening night audience how she lost her virginity at 15 to someone from Toronto.

“I’m comfortable in the environment and I feel friendly with everyone, so I feel at home,” she explained to PEOPLE at the time during an interview the next day.

Twain also shared her delight at how the first performance of her new residency went, saying “I’m not just relieved, I’m really happy.”

“I was really able to enjoy the adrenaline, because even adrenaline can get you out of your head,” she added.

In the months leading up to the new residency, Twain, 58, spoke fondly of the fashion show on Come on Over, which includes her wigs. However, as she explained to PEOPLE, the size of her collection is “not bad.”

“I probably have 10 natural wigs that are my natural hair just for bad hair days,” she said. “Then I have 10 colored wigs. I don’t have a ton. Twenty isn’t bad.”

Her latest favorite, she says, is her light pink wig, which she rocks most of the year.

“It’s the closest thing to what I’ll look like when I’m completely gray,” she joked.

In addition to her hairstyle, Twain also received praise from her fans for the black dress with cascading ruffles that she wears during her hit “From This Moment.” The dress, in fact, is so important to the performance that Twain said she named the dress and refers to it as if it were a person.

“Her name is Fiona and she’s probably, I guess, about 20 pounds, maybe more, maybe even 20 to 30 pounds. It is a structure. I designed it,” Twain said of the dress, adding that it took “weeks” to make.

“I already knew what it should be, and then I just had to add the right amount. It was like putting together a puzzle. But I already knew what the puzzle would look like, what he wanted it to look like. It’s a production to put it in place, to put it on, to take it off,” she explained.

In August 2023, Twain told PEOPLE that Come on Over would be a “reminder” of her highly engaged and energetic residency show “Let’s Go,” which ran at the Bakkt Theater from 2019 to 2022. (Her “Still the One ” led a residency in Vegas from 2012 to 2014 at Caesars Palace.) She also promised a fashion show.

And after her performance on May 10, the singer shared that she enjoys life and style, as well as seeing what her audience wears to her show.

“I enjoy it. I enjoy fashion. I enjoy watching the audience wear fashion. It was a lot of fun – she revealed.

“I see people wearing things, even recent things. They come with dyed hair and it makes me laugh, it makes me happy because they are in the same spirit and so we are all in the same spirit, especially in a room like this. It’s very intimate. It’s informal and I feel really comfortable.”

Come on Over lasts until December 2024.
