Prince Harry pokes fun at the similarities between the NFL and the English sport of rugby.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, made a surprise appearance at the NFL Honors on Thursday to present the Walter Payton NFL Player of the Year to Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward. As he walked out onto the stage, Harry joked about how the American game came to be.

“Good evening, NFL. It’s an honor to be with you all tonight. I really like how you stole rugby from us and made it your own,” Harry He said in his speech, as seen in a video posted on X.

“Instead of adding it backwards, just add it forwards. Why don’t you wear pads and a helmet? Sure, have offense and defence, that makes sense,” joked the Duke of Sussex.

Harry added jokingly, “And why not take a breather every 15 seconds? And you know what, instead of a 10 month season, make it 18 weeks. Brilliant.”

Before presenting Heyward with the award, Prince Harry paid tribute to the talent of the NFL players, especially the defensive plays: “Everything you do on and off the field is truly remarkable,” he said.

King Charles personally shared his cancer diagnosis with Prince Harry, Prince William and family

The Duke of Sussex’s Las Vegas appearance came just hours after he returned to California following a brief visit to the UK to see his father, King Charles, after the monarch was recently diagnosed with cancer.

On Monday, Buckingham Palace announced that the king, 75, had been diagnosed with cancer after undergoing a procedure to treat an enlarged prostate.

“During the King’s recent hospital procedure for a benign prostate enlargement, a separate matter of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests identified a form of cancer,” the palace said in a statement.

“His Majesty began a schedule of regular treatments today, during which time doctors have advised him to postpone public duties. During this period, His Majesty will continue to carry out government business and official paperwork as usual,” the statement continued.

Prince Harry went on a short trip to the UK without his wife Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, who stayed at home in California.
