Prince Harry Jokes That Americans ‘Stole Rugby From Us’ During Surprise NFL Honors Appearance

Prince Harry pokes fun at the similarities between the NFL and the English sport of rugby.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, made a surprise appearance at the NFL Honors on Thursday to present the Walter Payton NFL Player of the Year to Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward. As he walked out onto the stage, Harry joked about how the American game came to be.

“Good evening, NFL. It’s an honor to be with you all tonight. I really like how you stole rugby from us and made it your own,” Harry He said in his speech, as seen in a video posted on X.

“Instead of adding it backwards, just add it forwards. Why don’t you wear pads and a helmet? Sure, have offense and defence, that makes sense,” joked the Duke of Sussex.

Harry added jokingly, “And why not take a breather every 15 seconds? And you know what, instead of a 10 month season, make it 18 weeks. Brilliant.”
