Shar Jackson's 4 Children: All About Donovan, Cassalei, Kori and Kaleb

After gaining fame, actress Shar Jackson stepped away from the spotlight to focus on being a mother to her four children: Donovan Jackson, Cassalei Monique Jackson, Kori Madison Jackson Federline and Kaleb Michael Jackson Federline.

The Moesha the actress became a mother for the first time when she had a son Donovan with her high school boyfriend at the age of 17 in 1993, and a year later her daughter Cassie was born. Appearing on High school media podcast in May 2024, Shar credited her mother with helping her grow into a parent.

Shar welcomed daughter Kori with ex-fiancé Kevin Federline in 2002, and then son Kaleb in 2004. Until then, she was able to be more present with her children as her career became more established.

When Shar and Kevin divorced during her pregnancy with Kaleb, he and Britney Spears had a son, Sean Preston Federline, in 2005, and then Jayden James Federline in 2006.

Although it is Good Burger the star had to adapt to the new family dynamics, it was always important to her that her children knew their brothers. “We definitely make sure all the kids get close,” Shar told reporters in 2007. “They’re siblings — they need each other.”

Shar couldn’t be more proud of her sons and daughters. “A couple of them are going to school and getting engineering degrees, one is getting an art degree, and then my kid, he’s in high school and just started his first job,” she told Hollywood Live with Tanya Hart in 2021 “That means my duties are almost over… Now when people call me and ask me to go out, I can’t use my kids as an excuse!”

Shar became a mom for the first time when she and her high school boyfriend gave birth to a son, Donovan “Donnie” Jackson, on June 23, 1993.

During this time she acted in small roles for plays including Roc and my so called life and trying to make it as an actress. Donovan was 3 years old when she experienced great success in the role of Niecy Jackson Moeshabut since she was still on the rise, she relied heavily on her family to help her on her motherhood journey.

“My mom had to really step up,” Shar continued Hollywood Live. “My mom and my sister actually stepped in and made sure the kids got where they needed to be, took them to all their classes and classes, and sometimes I’d just get home to make dinner or put them to bed, and that was hard for me.”

However, once recording for Moesha was over and Shar had more time and resources at her disposal, she could be a more present mom. “When Moesha finished, the kids were still pretty young, probably 9 and 10, so I was able to throw myself into full-on motherhood, and it was really good,” she recalled.

Donovan mostly lives out of the limelight. His career is unknown and his social media pages are private, except for cosplay and anime. However, his mom shares his moments on her social media from time to time.

“Happy birthday to my first born… you first made me experience true unconditional love,” Shar wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of her son at the event in 2018. “Enjoy your birthday boy, I love you!”

Cassalei Monique Jackson, 30

Shar welcomed her daughter Cassalei “Cassie” Jackson a year later on September 20, 1994.

Cassalei revealed that the hardest part of her childhood came after Bernie Mac the star broke up with Kevin.

“I think the day my mom and my stepdad Kevin broke up was the day a really big and important part of my mom died,” she shared on the episode of Lifetime’s The mother/daughter experiment in 2016.

Cassalei continued, “We lost the house and she went from being a loving caring soul to not wanting to go anywhere or do anything. It all affected me quite negatively and it was like my whole family was destroyed.”

Nevertheless, Shar and Cassalei remained close, with Cassalei accompanying her mother to red carpet events and appearing with her in projects including The mother/daughter experiment and Exorcism of celebrities.

Cassalei has focused on a career in computer science and engineering, according to her Instagram, but has also followed her mom into the entertainment industry by starring in a reality show Naked and scared of love in 2021

Shar became a grandmother when Cassalei welcomed her daughter Mariah on January 25, 2015 with her ex-boyfriend, actor Christopher Massey.

Cassalei keeps her child’s life mostly private, but she shares tidbits through her Instagram stories. In a sweet birthday post from 2019, she wrote: “I never share my life with you, but I’m raising the sweetest, most dramatic, caring little girl ever.”

Cassalei has nothing but respect and admiration for her mom, and shared a touching tribute to Shar for Mother’s Day 2017.

“Happy Mother’s Day to this beautiful woman who inspires me every day to find my own way through life,” she wrote on Instagram. “It’s so beautiful to know what unconditional love is and so refreshing to see someone who was so young when she became a mother raise us all so effortlessly. I’m so proud of everything you do and I hope I make you proud too.”

Kori Madison Jackson Federline, 22

Shar welcomed her third child, Kori Madison Federline, with Kevin on July 31, 2002.

Although the couple split a few years later, Shar always praised the way Kevin was there for Kori.

“He’s an amazing dad,” she told PEOPLE in 2006. “When Kori was first born, the whole first year and a half, he was there. I mean, he wouldn’t leave her. He’s a good boy, even when he’s not with him [his kids]it hurts his heart to miss them so much.”

Kori has joined her mom at several special events over the years, including The Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor Scares the Ship Out of Celebrities in 2015 and the BoxLunch Holiday Gala Honoring Feeding America 2023.

On Instagram, Kori describes herself as a “carefree, stress-free, happy” artist and player, and she also shows her drawings on the platform. Video games are a passion he shares with his mom, who is also a self-proclaimed gamer.

Kori has a close relationship with her mother, but also seems to share a close bond with her former stepmother Spears. She was photographed with the singer as a child, and in 2022, the singer shared a drawing on Instagram that Kori gave her.

“My son’s half sister drew this!!!! … I think she was 12 when she did this … I’ve been keeping it all this time … she did it by hand with no marks,’ Spears captioned the photo. “I respect people who can draw like this … I mean wow … wow !!!!”

Kaleb Michael Jackson Federline, 20

Sara’s youngest child is a son, Kaleb Michael Jackson Federline, whom she welcomed with Kevin on July 20, 2004.

Despite Kevin splitting from Shar while she was pregnant with Caleb, the teenager appears to have a close relationship with his father and even wore a costume in one of Kevin’s Halloween music videos in 2015.

Shar posted a photo of Kaleb posing in pinstripes and a fedora, writing, “Kaleb is channeling his dad in MJ’s ‘rock my world’ video lol.”

While Kaleb seems to be more private as an adult, he often attended events with his mom as a child, including an after party for How the Grinch Stole Christmas Dr. Seuss! Musical in 2009.

In May 2024, Shar announced that she was preparing to return to work in the entertainment industry at the urging of her children.

“I’m working on some projects … my kids just looked at me and said, ‘We love that you’re home, mom, but I want you to go to work,'” she said on High school media podcast.

Shar continued, “I started all these other businesses and things so I could be home with the kids, and they were like, ‘That’s all great and I’m happy you have it, but uhhh, you should go to work.’ ”
