Sharna Burgess opens up about her struggle with body image. In a recent episode of her podcast, ElderlyThe 38-year-old shared her insecurities and how at one point she seriously considered breast implants and liposuction.
“Over the years, the only reason I didn’t end up getting a mastectomy in my 20s was because I saw someone who got one who was muscular like me and looked like a bodybuilder,” Burgess said on Wednesday’s episode.
She added: “I was like, ‘I don’t want that.’ And that was the only reason I didn’t. But other than that, I was under the impression that I wanted bigger breasts because other people had them and it was feminine and attractive. Even I was influenced by those things.”
The Dancing with the stars alum, who hosts a podcast with her fiancé, Brian Austin Green, revealed her mother’s deep influence on her because of the negative self-descriptions she often used.

“My mom is an amazing woman, but I’ve been hearing about her insecurities about my body or her shape my whole life because she’s always had very critical language about herself,” Burgess continued. “She was always very hard on herself about a lot of things. And I say this with so much deep love, but there was always something in the negative tone. I think that was imprinted on me, that negative language about my body.”
Burgess also touched on how her mother’s language influenced her decision to potentially go for liposuction. She recalled her mother using a phrase like “thunder thighs” to describe larger legs. Although her mother never instructed her to do so, Burgess explained that she adopted the language and started talking to herself about these issues.

“So at some point in my life I thought, ‘Oh, should I get liposuction so I can have a gap between my legs like other people have?’ ” she said. “My body is not built like that. And that was before social media. It was at a time when my mom was my way of talking about her body.”
Burgess — who shares parenting responsibilities for Green’s sons Noah Shannon, 11, Bodhi Ransom, 9, and Journey River, 7, who are his children from his previous marriage to Megan Fox — emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive language environment around children.
“Dancing with the Stars” contestant, who hosts a podcast about her finances, actor Brian Austin Green, continued, revealing her mother’s deep influence on her due to the negative self-descriptions she often used.

“I think it’s very important for us to focus in the home, not only for our children but also for ourselves, the language we use in the mirror; the language we use with our children about the way our bodies change, shape and form,” Burgess said. “Find something nice to change that language. Even as you work internally to accept those things about your body.”
In addition to their sons with Fox, Green and Burgess share son Zane Walker, 14 months, and ex Beverly Hills, 90210 the star also has a son, Kassius, 21, with ex-girlfriend Vanessa Marcil.
Earlier this month, on another episode of their podcast, Green and Burgess talked about raising his three sons with Fox. Burgess recalled contacting Fox via text to introduce herself, noting, “I think she really appreciated that she started out with openness.”
