She was involved in casting DiCaprio to play the son of Hackman’s character in the film and knew “he was a superstar” when she saw the young actor audition, according to the paper.

“Leo was a kid,” Stone recalled of working with him. She told the newspaper that she doubted he knew she had paid him before she published her book.
Stone recalled that Leo would spend time with her in her trailer and take impressions of her while she was on set. To celebrate DiCaprio’s birthday during filming, Stone and her sister “took him go-karting [to celebrate]”, she recalled.

“I wanted to be in a great movie, not a dumb movie,” Stone told the outlet, personally advocating for DiCaprio’s casting. “So I surrounded myself with the best people I could.”
Back in November, DiCaprio addressed Stone’s act of kindness with Hey! News when he told the outlet, “I thanked her many times,” for casting him in the film. “I don’t know if I sent her an actual, physical thank you gift, but I can’t thank her enough.”
DiCaprio recalled that Stone also personally brought Russell Crowe on board The quick and the deaddirected by Sam Raimi.

“She said, ‘These are the two actors I want to work with.’ It’s amazing,” he recalled at the time. “She was a great champion of cinema and gave other actors an opportunity, so I’m very grateful to her.”
Crowe previously recalled that Stone pushed his casting choices during appearances at the 2020 Late Night with Seth Meyersin which he said, “She was in a sword fight with the male producers on the movie and she just put her foot down and said, ‘I’m going to hire whoever I want to hire as a lover. ‘ ”
“If it wasn’t for her strength of commitment, I don’t know how long it would have been before I got an American film,” he added. “I have a lot to thank her for.”
