Profession
In 2008, at the age of 17, Shashank Singh made his debut for the Mumbai Under-19 cricket team. He then joined the DY Patil Cricket Academy and started playing club-level cricket for the team. In 2015, Shashank was selected for the Mumbai Senior T20 team after scoring an unbeaten 65 runs from 23 balls in a local cricket tournament held in Cuttack. He considers being selected for the Mumbai Senior T20 team as the best achievement of his career so far. On 1 April 2015, he started his domestic cricket career in a T20 match against Cuttack in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. On 10 December 2015, he made his A-grade cricket debut in the 2015–16 Vijay Hazare Trophy against Punjab in Hyderabad. Considering his performance in domestic cricket, he was bought by Delhi Dadevilles (now Delhi Capitals) in the auction before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. He did not play a single match throughout the season.
Since the beginning of his career, Shashank has been an extremely aggressive white-ball (limited-overs) batsman. This was one of the reasons why he could not make it to the Mumbai first-class cricket team. In 2019, he decided to move to Chhattisgarh to continue his cricket career and play for the Chhattisgarh Cricket Team. On 9 December 2019, he made his first-class cricket debut for Chhattisgarh (against Odisha) in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy and has been a part of the team since then. He was unsold in the auction of the 2018 IPL. He was a part of the Rajasthan Royals team in the 2019 and 2020 IPL.
On December 19, 2023, at the 2024 IPL auction held at the Coca-Cola Stadium in Dubai, Kings XI Punjab acquired Shashank Singh for Rs 20 lakh. After the auction, there were reports that Kings XI Punjab had “mistakenly” acquired Shashank from the team; however, the team later clarified in a tweet that Shashank had always been on their target list. In the tweet, it was also mentioned that there was confusion due to the presence of two players with the same name on the list.
