Shashwat Sachdev is an Indian music composer, lyricist and singer. He is best known for composing the music and background score for the Bollywood action film Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019).
Wiki/Biography
Shashwat Sachdev was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Although Shashwat came from a non-musical background, with his father a doctor and his mother a philosophy lecturer, he developed a keen interest in music from an early age. He began studying music at the age of four. It was her mother who initially started teaching him music. In addition, his father is also a music lover.
For 21 years, he was trained in the shishya tradition, the masters of Indian classical music, under his mentor Ustad Ramzan Khan. He also talked about the same thing in an interview,
I remember my guru refusing to teach me any other raga except Raag Yaman for 11 years until I perfected it and could sing it without any frills. “
He started learning Western classical piano from Class 7 and studied Western classical piano for 11 years. He moved to Hollywood, Los Angeles in 2011 and worked there for a few years before returning to India in 2016. He studied law at Symbiosis Law College, Pune from 2006 to 2011. Later, he started living in an apartment in Versova, Mumbai.

His father Sudhir Sachdev is the vice-chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences and Technology (MGUMST). He previously served as Professor of Anesthesiology at MGUMST. His mother Mani Sachdev is a lecturer at Manipal University in Jaipur. His sister Sahiba Tandon is an architect.

Profession
After completing his formal education, he moved to Los Angeles when Grammy Award winner Tony Maserati invited him to come and work with him. Shashwat and Tony met at an audio engineering seminar in Europe and have stayed in touch ever since. In Los Angeles, Shashwat began his Hollywood career. Talking about the same in an interview, he said,
I first got my chance in Hollywood. I attended a small workshop in France about sound design and sound engineering. A seminar attendee invited me to work with him. So, that’s how it started. “
He has collaborated with many famous Hollywood musicians, such as Marc Shaiman, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Mariah Carey.
Bollywood
as a composer
Rhea Kapoor gave Shashwat Sachdev his first break in her film Veere Di Wedding (2018). During the shooting of Veere Di Wedding, he got an opportunity to work in the film Phillauri. He made his Bollywood debut in 2017 by composing music for Phillauri, which included the much-anticipated songs “Dum Dum” and “Sahiba”. Narrating how he got the opportunity to work in Filauli, he said:
While I was in Los Angeles, I was looking for an agency to handle my work. Then I met Chaitanya Hegde and Datta Dave, who manage some of the great writers in the country. They put me in touch with Mr. Kanesh. He asked me to compose a song. “
For his work in Phillauri, he was nominated for New Music Composer of the Year for “Bajaake Tumba”, New Music Composer of the Year for “Sahiba” and Best Song Engineer (Recording) for “Naughty Billo” and remix) nomination. The 10th Milch Music Awards. He composed four songs for the buddy comedy film Veere Di Wedding (2018) and then scored the streaming TV series Selection Day (2018).
In 2019, Sachdev composed the music and background score for Uri: The Surgical Strike, which earned him rave reviews and various accolades. His song “Jagga Jiteya” from the movie was widely appreciated. Additionally, the background score for “Uri” was so highly appreciated that it was released separately by popular demand.

In 2018, he lent his voice to the song of the same name in the film Kaalakaandi along with Vivek Hariharan, Romy and Arun Kamath.
He collaborated with Sunidhi Chauhan on the song “Pappi Le Loon” and with Neha Kakkar and Romy on the song “Bhangra Ta Sajda” in “Veere Di Wedding” (2018). He has lent his voice to several songs in the films Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019) and Attack: Part 1 (2022).
Work independently
He has collaborated with Madhubanti Bagchi as the lyricist and composer of the songs Kahaniya (2019), Maan Ja (2020) and Roko Na (2020). In 2022, he released his first single Awaara Ho under IndieA Records – UMG. The song has been written, composed and sung by Shashwat himself.
Other songs for which he has written lyrics and composed music include Sha – Dobara (2021) with Shreya Jain, Sha – O Jaana (2021) and Awaara Ho – Dream Pop (2022) with Shilpa Rao. He has worked as the composer of Jubin Nautiyal’s song Meri Jaan (2021), Shirley Setia’s Tenu Vekhan Da (2021) and Prateek Kuhad’s Kaisi Jadugari (2023).

In 2021, he released his debut production album “Euphoria And The Following Realties” under the music label Extreme Music. The song Dharma from his album won the Best World Produced Music Award 2021, while Shashwat himself won the PRS Foundation’s Best Newcomer Award 2021.
He also released a lo-fi album of the same name titled “Sha”, directed by Shivam Malhotra of Malsons Media. In 2022, he released his second album “Shades of Cashmere” under Extreme Music.
