Shia LaBeouf Returns to Red Carpet in Rare Appearance at Cannes Film Festival for Megalopolis

Shia LaBeouf makes a rare public appearance at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where he is showing a new film.

Dressed in a tuxedo with bleached blonde hair, the 37-year-old actor was at an event in France to mark the premiere of his latest film, Megalopolisin which he stars alongside Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Laurence Fishburne, Grace VanderWaal and Giancarlo Esposito.

The film, written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which also premiered, is described as “a Roman epic set in an imaginary decadent modern America.”

According to the festival synopsis, Megalopolis tells the story of an idealistic architect and a corrupt mayor who fight to control the future of a failing city called New Rome. Caught between the two are “some iconic characters like the ones they play” LaBeouf and Jon Voight, who also appeared on the red carpet with the film’s ensemble cast.

Shia LaBeouf spotted on the set of Francis Ford Coppola’s epic ‘Megalopolis’ in Atlanta

LaBeouf’s last major red carpet appearance was on February 9, 2020, when he appeared at the 92nd Academy Awards to present the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film along with his Falcon Peanut Butter actor Zack Gottsagen.

The film marks LaBeouf’s first role since starring in the 2020 biopic Padre Piowhich was released months before ex-girlfriend FKA twigs filed a lawsuit against him accusing him of sexual assault and “relentless abuse.”

Olivia Wilde on whether Shia LaBeouf quit or was fired: ‘It’s a matter of semantics’

In the report from Diversityhe denied being fired and claimed he “left the film due to lack of rehearsal time” on 17 August that year, while Wilde claimed the actor was fired because his acting process did not help create a “safe, trusting environment” on set.

“My failures with Twigs are fundamental and real, but they are not the story that was presented,” LaBeouf told Wilde, 40, in an email obtained by this outlet. “There’s a time and a place to deal with such things, and I’m trying to manage a nuanced situation with respect for her and the truth, hence my silence.”
