Shiv started his journalism career in 2002. From October 2002 to March 2007, he worked as a senior reporter at The Indian Express, covering defense-related matters for three years. Shiv then joined India Today in April 2007 as a special correspondent and as a senior editor for thirteen years, and was promoted to executive editor in January 2021. Shiv has been serving as Senior Managing Editor at India Today’s Noida, Uttar Pradesh bureau since June 2022.

Schiff considers writing an entire book to be the hardest thing he has ever done. He has written fiction and non-fiction books, all about the military. In 2017, Shiv published his first book Operation Jinnah. The book tells the story of a kidnapped Kashmiri girl. It includes various historical events, such as the attack on Parliament, as well as fictional stories about how the Prime Minister and Chief of the Naval Staff dealt with it. It was well received. Boycott by India Coordination Council Media Cell.

In September 2023, the Coordination Committee of the Indian National Development Inclusion Alliance (INDIA), the group responsible for media affairs, announced that Indian representatives would not participate in news programs hosted by 14 specific anchors.
