Shobha Ohatkar is an Indian civil servant who was appointed as the first female DGP of Bihar in 2020.

Shobha Ohatkar was born on Friday, September 3, 1965 in Hyderabad (age 57 years; as of 2023). Her zodiac sign is Virgo. She completed her education in Hyderabad. In 1989, she pursued a master’s degree in political science from the Central University of Hyderabad. When she was a child, her father always suggested that she join the army. After completing her studies, she cleared the UPSC examination in one try and got the post of Assistant Superintendent of Police in Patna cadets. She said in an interview that she attributes her success to her father as he always told her to work sincerely and honestly. When she got posted in Bihar, her mother was a bit worried about her but her father was full of confidence and motivated her a lot. Shobha became the first Assistant Superintendent of Police of Patna Cadet in 1992. In 2000, she was transferred to Pune as Additional Superintendent of Police. While working in Maharashtra, she also served as Executive Director, Air India Safety. She served as SP in 6 districts of Bihar, including Darbhanga, Hazaribagh, Chhapra, Vaishali and Deoghar. In December 2020, she returned to Bihar as a trainee and became the first female director general of Bihar. As of 2022, she serves as Director of the Home Guard and Fire Department.

Air India provides clean evidence to Shobha
In 2016, Air India submitted a report to the Civil Aviation Ministry (CAM) alleging that Shobha, while serving as chief vigilance officer (Dy CVO), traveled to different places and stayed in hotels at the airline’s expense. The ministry sought an explanation from Air India. Referring to the report submitted by Air India, a senior official of the Civil Aviation Ministry (CAM) said:
The report alleges that the finance department inadvertently paid HRA’s salary to the CVO, but when she pointed this out herself, the money was immediately withdrawn from her salary. The report clarified that Ohatik’s stay in a hotel in Mumbai was approved by the then CMD until the city allotted her suitable accommodation. A total of 31 trips were ticketed during the year, of which only 21 were for official travel. These are idle complaints. How is it possible for a person to travel 31 times a month like the legend? The allegations of corruption are not only baseless and false, but appear to be a deliberate and malicious effort to belittle the honesty and integrity of senior officials. ”
Vikas Vaibhav v/s Shobha Ohatkar
On February 10, 2023, a screenshot of a tweet by IPS Vikas Vaibhav about “listening to Ms. DG’s abuse every day” went viral on social media. As can be seen in the video, he recorded his official meeting with Shobha and shared it on social media. After the video went viral, she sent him a gig note. He was charged with violation of Rule 3 of the All India Service Rules of Conduct, 1968 and also charged with breach of confidentiality. The notice mentioned,
The things you documented in your viral message have entered the public domain. It can be seen that you record the discussions in the office meeting. This shows that your intentions are wrong. It also violated the relevant provisions of the Official Secrets Act. IPS Vikas Vaibhav is trying to tarnish the image of his senior officer by raising baseless allegations through social media. His behavior was completely contrary to that of a senior police officer and was a manifestation of his violation of discipline, dereliction of duty and violation of law. “
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed support for Shobha and criticized Vaibhav’s behavior, saying:
You should be very aware of this, anyone who has a job, whether it’s an official, their job is not to tweet. This is the worst thing. If they have a problem, they should notify their department or superior. They should be communicated personally rather than announced publicly. This is the law. “
On February 13, 2023, he requested for transfer and approval of the 60-day leave he had applied for earlier, but was not granted permission by Shobha. The Home Ministry also issued a notice to him on February 16, 2023, for his conduct with a senior official.

- Shoba usually works for the welfare of women. She formed a committee to provide helpline numbers in Maharashtra for the safety of women. She also served as the nodal officer for human trafficking in Maharashtra.
- She said in an interview that her aim was to create fear in the minds of criminals about the police. She was known as ‘Huntwali’ in Bihar due to her stern action against criminals. Once, she beat some of the accused who had raped women visiting the Deogarh temple so violently that the criminals started to fear her and she was given the name “Huntvali”.
- In an interview, she shared some of the big cases she solved as Bihar SP. When she was the SP of Vaishali, she stopped the practice of triple cycling, thereby reducing crime in the area by 50%. In Bihar’s Diyala district, she arrested a gang of 16-17 criminals and in 2000, when she was the police officer in Hazaribagh, she arrested 40 coal mafias.
- In 2006, when she was representing Maharashtra, she solved a major sex scandal in Ahmednagar. The case involved the rape of two underage girls and involved many powerful people. When she was SP of the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW), she arrested 26 of them and filed charges against all the accused within 90 days.
- She said in an interview that when she was an SP, she often listened to people’s problems and earned their trust by working for them. She further added that any SP that wants to be successful should gain people’s trust by talking to them directly.
- According to her, she works 18 hours a day and hopes that her colleagues will also work hard for the progress of society.
