According to Shrestha, she was molested twice by miscreants while she was studying in Kanpur. However, the police failed to take appropriate response. This led to a major turning point in her life and sparked her desire to become a police officer. She pursued this desire and achieved her goal in 2012, qualifying as a Provincial Police Officer (PPS) and becoming a police officer. Shrestha Thakur credits her brother for helping her prepare for a difficult exam like PPS.
Transferred for taking action against BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh
In June 2017, she attracted media attention when she, as the Circle Constable (CO) of Syana in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, confronted a local BJP leader, accusing him of violating traffic rules. She made headlines by arresting five BJP leaders for obstructing government servants from discharging their duties. A video of her scolding BJP leaders for violating traffic rules and seeking leniency went viral, earning her widespread praise for staying true to her duties. Amid the confrontation, she demanded a written statement from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, claiming that the police had no authority to inspect vehicles. She also accused the BJP leaders of promoting “Goondaraj” and tarnishing the party’s reputation. In July 2017, she was transferred to Behraich district in Uttar Pradesh. She shared a message about the move to Behraich on her Facebook account, writing:
Transferred to Balechi, which is the border of Nepal, don’t worry my friend, I am very happy…. I accept it as a reward for my good work… You are all invited to Bahraich (sic). Jahan bhi jayega roshni lutayega, kisi charagh ka apna makan nahi hota (A lamp has no house. It spreads light wherever it goes).

File a complaint against your ex-husband
In 2024, she filed a complaint in Ghaziabad alleging that her ex-husband cheated her by posing as an IRS official and defrauded many people of hundreds of thousands of rupees. She said her ex-husband Rohit Raj Singh not only cheated her by falsely claiming he was married to her, but also cheated people by falsely claiming she was a police officer and collecting money from them. He allegedly used fake signatures to transfer Rs 15 lakh, which was meant to purchase a piece of land in Lucknow, into his account. Thakur revealed that she married him in 2018 through a dating website. In an interview, when talking about her ex-husband’s fraud, she revealed,
Rohit Raj Singh claimed to be an IRS officer of 2008 batch, deputy commissioner, serving in Ranchi… Despite knowing the truth, the applicant did not break the marital relationship and satisfied Rohit and his All the financial requirements of the family and applied for a loan in 2018 I used my salary to transfer the money to Rohit’s father’s account. Even after fully supporting Rohit, his behavior did not change and he continued to use my police position and name to mislead and deceive many people and collect huge amounts of money from them. After discussing the issue with Rohit and his family, Rohit and his family started harassing me. I was beaten up by Rohit Raj Singh and my children received death threats. ”
She accused Rohit, his father and brother of making false transfers of Rs 15 lakh into their accounts by forging signatures and misusing ATM cards. She mentioned that the money was saved for purchasing a plot of land in Lucknow. In an interview, she claimed that even after divorcing Rohit, he continued to misuse her name to cheat people. She said,
Tired of all these things, I divorced Rohit Raj Singh three years ago. But to misuse my name, after Ranchi and Bihar, he established a new base at Kaushambi, Ghaziabad. He started cheating people and told all my employees that he was appointed as Delhi Income Tax Commissioner. He also married again two years ago. He misused my children’s photos and created a fake Facebook ID. ”
Ghaziabad police arrested Rohit Singh on February 9, 2024.
