Shubhman Gill

Currently, with uncertainty surrounding Shubhman Gill’s return to the 2023 World Cup, the selectors and team management have to look for a replacement at the right time. As you know, Shubhman Gill is suffering from dengue fever and is still recovering from it. As a result, he remains unavailable for the Indian cricket team in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Moreover, it is not certain when the youngster will be available for the Indian team as he apparently needs more time to recover from the effects of dengue fever. There is currently anticipation and uncertainty about Shubhman Gill replacing Sanja Samson, who did not find a place in the starting 15-man squad for the WC. Additionally, Shubhman Gill did not travel with the team and the BCCI said he is currently undergoing observation and treatment in Chennai. He reportedly caught symptoms before his arrival and had no training for the matches.

According to a BCCI statement, Shubman Gill will not travel with the team to Delhi on October 9, 2023. However, the first player to miss the first team set-up at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the next team set-up against of Afghanistan in Delhi on October 11, 2023. The statement added that he will remain in Chennai and be under the supervision of a medical team. As for the recovery, it remains ongoing and therefore no deadline has been set. According to the report, Shubhman Gill has already recovered 70-80 percent. As you all know dengue is a serious illness and he will need another 2 weeks to get back on his feet before he can join practice. Obviously, this is a long-term process. Moreover, he remains in the annals of Chennai because the BCCI Medical Team did not give the necessary clearance.
