Young Indian starlet Shubman Gill from Punjab is a right-handed batsman who is making waves at home and in the India A circuit. Nicknamed Shubhi, he is known for his compact technique and aggressive batting.

Shubman was born on 8 September 1999 in Fazilka, Punjab, India (25 years old; as of 2024). He was educated at Manav Mangar Smart School, Mohali, Punjab. Shubman has been playing cricket since his childhood and idolized Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. His family moved to Mohali from Fazilka and stayed in a rented house near the Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium so that Shubman could play and improve his cricket-related skills.

Shubhman was selected for the district-level under-16 Punjab cricket team at the age of 11. Next, he made his Group A debut against Vidarbha Cricket in Delhi (2017). Later, in the same year, he was selected for the India Under-19 cricket team. When he scored a total of 351 runs in his first match of the Youth ODI series against England, it changed his life forever and earned him the title of Player of the Series. He was selected as the vice-captain for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup (2018). In 2018, he became a part of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who hired him for Rs 180 crore in the IPL auction. He made his ODI debut on 31 January 2019 against New Zealand in Hamilton. He made his Test debut on 26 December 2020 against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He made his debut in a T20I match against Sri Lanka on 3 January 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium. BCCI selects Shubman Gill for Dooley ahead of Test series against Bangladesh in August 2024 along with Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav Cup competition.

- In his first series, he set a record by scoring the highest number of runs (330) in five games.
- When he participated in the Under-16 Punjab state level competition (2014), he scored over 200 runs and won his first Vijay Merchant Trophy.
- When he participated in the ML Markan Trophy, the inter-district under-16 Punjab cricket tournament, he scored 351 runs.
- He is famous for setting a world record 587 runs with Nirmal Singh at the district level.
- He is the fourth youngest cricketer from Punjab to score a first-class century in the Ranji Trophy (2017).
- He won the BCCI MAChidambaram Trophy for the best under-16 cricketer for his successful season (2013-2014).
- During the Tata IPL 2023, Shubman Gill, who represented the Gujarat Titans, was awarded the prestigious Orange Cap after scoring an impressive 890 runs in 17 games throughout the season. This achievement places him in the elite group of only three batsmen to cross the 800-run mark in an IPL season. Additionally, Gill has the second-highest score in a single edition of the tournament, surpassed only by Virat Kohli in 2016 with 973 runs. In recognition of his outstanding performance, Gill was awarded the title of “Game Changer” and “Most Valuable Player” for the 2023 IPL season.
- In October 2023, Shubman was announced as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for September 2023. He became the first Indian player to win the ICC award multiple times.
