Shyamoli Varma is a famous Indian supermodel and actor. Shyamoli is also considered the first Lakmé girl as she was the brand’s first spokesperson in India. She started her career in 1979 and has worked for many Indian and international fashion brands till date. Even though she was only 24 when she started working, she impressed everyone, which is why one brand offered her a job in Paris. She has worked with brands and designers such as Vogue, Maxim, Pierre Cardin and more. She has also worked in films such as Kama Sutra (1996), Everybody Says I’m Fine (2001) and Rog (2005).

Shyamoli was born on 11 December 1957 in Pune (Age as of March 2022: 64). She is of Bengali, Punjabi and British descent.

She studied educational psychology at Sofia Women’s College. After graduating from college, the model found a job as a telephone operator in Pune and later as a receptionist at the Taj Mahal Hotel. She then worked in a jeans retail store in Mumbai, where she was discovered by Jeannie Naoroji.

Her father was a lieutenant colonel in the Indian Army, while her mother was a housewife and her brother worked as a financial consultant in Melbourne. Her father later moved to Australia, and her mother, the owner of the largest bauxite mine in Nivan, Madhya Pradesh, is now deeply in debt.

In 1981, Shamoli married the son of Jeannie Naoroji, but the long distance between Paris and Bombay prevented the marriage from taking place. After few years she met Abhijeet Chatterjee and fell in love again, they got married and had a daughter, they named her Akiksha, but as every happy Like the love story, there was trouble in paradise and the two got divorced. After this, Shamoli became a single mother and bought a new house in Pune.

Shyamoli was discovered by renowned fashion choreographer Jeannie Naoroji when she was working as a saleswoman in a jeans store in Mumbai. Subsequently, she signed a three-year contract with Lakmé as the spokesperson of the brand. Lakme needed a pretty face to become famous in the Indian cosmetics market and break taboos in the cosmetics market. A year later, she started shooting commercials for Nescafé and Doordarshan.

In 1980, Pierre Cardin offered her a job in Paris, and after being rejected by several agencies, Clitter chose her, an agency that attracts girls from all over the world. She collaborates with major brands and designers such as YSL, Chanel, Vogue, Maxim, Karl Lagerfield, Max Mara, Comme des Garçons, etc. Shaymoli befriended Indian model Anjali Mendes, photographer Rohit Khosla and Azzedine Alai from Tunisia.

In 1989, she returned to Pune and began her career as a fashion choreographer, traveling throughout India, France and Germany over the next five years until the birth of her daughter.

Movie

The beautiful model acted in three movies, one of which was Rog, released in 2005. In this movie, Shyamoli’s character was named Shyamoli, and she starred alongside Ilene Hamann and Irrfan Khan, directed by Himanshu Bhrambhatt. The other two films were Kama Sutra, released in 1996, in which she played Rasa Devi’s courtesan, and Everybody Says I’m Fine, released in 2001, in which she played Mrs. Mittal.
