Simone Ashley Says She and Jonathan Bailey Will Do 'All We Can' to Return for Bridgerton Season 4

Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey are not ready to bid Bridgerton goodbye just one more time!

During a press conference at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival on Saturday, June 15, the actress, 29, discussed whether she and Bailey, 36, will rekindle their on-screen romance in season four of the Netflix series.

When asked if the couple, who play Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, will return in the upcoming season, Ashley told reporters: “I really hope so.”

“Both Johnny and I, we love our characters, Kate and Anthony, so much, their relationship and what they mean to the show,” she said, adding, “I think we’re going to do everything we can with our schedules to make it happen. work so we can, hopefully.”

Kate and Anthony were the central couple Bridgerton season 2. They appeared in both parts of season 3, during which — spoiler — their characters decided to travel from the Bridgertons’ London residence to Kate’s hometown in India to welcome their first child.

Two others Bridgerton characters, Anthony’s sisters Eloise and Francesca Bridgerton, also depart London, the series’ primary location, after the events of season 3, and it’s still unclear which sibling will become the primary focus of season 4.

Like the Julia Quinn novels on which the drama series is based, each Bridgerton season revolves around another member of the Bridgerton family and their journey to love — and Netflix has yet to announce the lead cast for season four.

Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton, recently revealed on View that when it comes to whether his character will take center stage next season, his “honest answer” is “I don’t know.”

Like Ashley and Bailey, he’s just happy to continue Benedict’s story, stating that “one of the best things about the television business is that you can really explore a character like that in a long form and slowly flesh it out.”

“So as long as I can do it,” he said, adding, “Obviously, it would be great to dive in at some point, but we’ll have to wait and see!”

The third season of the Regency drama focuses on the love story between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), and ahead of their episodes, Ashley made sure to offer her support to the first leads.

At the New York premiere of the hit series on May 13, Ashley told PEOPLE that she’s “just there to make sure they have someone, that they have a friend.”

“Me and Nicola would check on each other,” he said Sexual education the star continued. “She’s such an inspiration to me and I’ve learned so much from her, and there have been times when she’s given me advice.”

Ashley added: “So it was amazing to have that in my work environment.”
