Simone Biles Carries the Olympic Flag During Paris Closing Ceremony as Olympics Transition to Los Angeles

Simone Biles is leaving the 2024 Paris Olympics on a high note.

The 27-year-old gymnast, who takes home three gold medals and one silver, had the honor of carrying the Olympic flag during Sunday’s closing ceremony on August 11.

Biles took the stage at the Stade de France and joined Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass as musician HER performed the US National Anthem. The song led to the much-anticipated moment of the night when Tom Cruise soared into the audience.

Biles was also noticeably wearing her preventative leg boot after revealing to NBC on Aug. 5 that she was dealing with “a little bit of pain” in her calves.

Biles was part of the transition from the Paris Olympics to the Los Angeles Games in 2028. After she handed the flag to Cruise, he strapped onto the back of a motorcycle and rode through the crowd of athletes into the night — and a pre-recorded video.

In the video, Cruise sped through the streets of Paris on a motorcycle, passing landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, and boarded a waiting plane.

“I’m on my way,” he said as he donned his jump gear to the tune of “By the Way” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Olympic cyclist Kate Courtney, former track star Michael Johnson and skateboarder Jagger Eaton then receive the flag. Finally, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Billie Eilish performed on Venice Beach to complete the transition to LA
