Sipho Kaleni, musician, died on 1 August 2022 aged 46 after an illness. Although the details are unknown, the official announcement of Kaleni’s death implies that he died after a short illness. Kaleni is ‘reportedly’ unwell since May 2022. The Crown Gospel Music Awards, co-founded by Kaleni, shared the sad news in a statement.
According to the statement:
“The World Gospel Powerhouse is heartbroken to announce the death of Sipho Kaleni, founding EXCO member of the Crowns Gospel Music Awards. Kaleni, a skilled minister of the word, musician, renowned MC, radio host and devoted member of the SDA Church, had been ill since about May of this year, and although he had shown signs of recovery in recent weeks, he sadly passed away in the early hours of August 1, 2022.

Sipho Kaleni, who was born on 21 September 1975, was a famous South African musician who specialized in Christian music. Kaleni went to Nkumbulo Comprehensive School and Umsobomvu Primary School as a child before graduating from Mbira School of Music and Arts. Kaleni started his career as a producer and videographer in 1998. He later expanded his knowledge to writing, arranging and talent spotting. After that, he was in charge of evaluating new gospel recordings for Radio Pulpit.
He later founded Parousia Communications and was director of Overeth Music Productions and Publishing. Kaleni was also a founding EXCO member of the Crowns Gospel Music Awards. For a while, he was also a radio host for Adventist World Radio. In addition to hosting the music show Gospel Gold, the artist regularly spoke at public events. Sipho Kaleni, a well-known presenter of numerous gospel music events and albums, has collaborated with Lebo Sekgobela, Mabongi and Bishop Benjamin Dube during his career.
Kaleni was also the leader and musician of Spirit of Praise. In a statement, the Crown Gospel Music Awards praised Kalena’s outstanding hosting abilities. They stated:
“Kaleni was the engine of Kruna who, unbeknownst to many, was not only our spokesperson, but also played a significant role in the preparation and production of the show. He was also the voice you heard introducing the award givers before they took the stage, as well as the names of the nominees before the winners were announced.”

Social media users and followers of the singer took to Twitter to mourn the musician’s death. Not much information was released about the musician’s funeral, except for the fact that he was survived by his wife Brenda Kaleni, children and mother. Tall On My Knees and Lord You Are Faithful are two of Kalena’s most popular songs. Yebo Bakithi Sombonga, You Alone Are God, Remain in God’s Pot and Garden of Love are among his other famous pieces.
