The special will be his first major TV appearance since undergoing hip replacement surgery earlier this year.

And he will be joined by regular guests from the Nags Head pub.

A TV source said: “It wouldn’t be Christmas without the Trotters, so this is a great way for viewers to get their Only Fools.

“Producers were delighted when David was declared fit to appear after surgery, so the special will be a treat for fans.”

In the documentary, which is shown on Channel 5, David will recall iconic moments from the beloved sitcom that first aired in 1981, as well as secrets from the festive sets.

His on-screen wife Tessa Peake-Jones, who played Raquel, will also appear, along with celebrity fans including Dragons Den star Theo Paphitis and Strictly hopeful and newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

Only Fools and Horses ended in 2003 and is synonymous with TV Christmas schedules, reaching record numbers of viewers.

Sir David remains committed to his most famous character, regularly attending Only Fools And Horses conventions, to the delight of fans.

However, due to hip surgery, the organizers had to postpone the latest gathering. Now recovered, Sir David is expected to perform at the postponed event early next year.

Praising his new “bionic hip” last month, David said: “I’m fine. I’m having a little trouble getting my muscles back because I was so weak for two to three weeks.

“I didn’t use my legs at all. I’m here now, getting it back, doing some exercises. But the hip itself is beautiful.”

Sounds like some pukka equipment.

KEEP CHOOSING, ANGELA

STRICTLY’S Angela Rippon has promised she’s not done yet.

The Rip-Off Britain presenter was honored with a TRIC Outstanding Achievement Award earlier this week for her television career spanning almost six decades.

And she has no plans to slow down at 79, as she confirmed to former BBC director-general John Birt, who told her to step down when she turns 50.

Accepting the award, Angela said: “It’s actually been 57 years since I started broadcasting.

“One message to John Birt, when I was 50, he said to me, ‘Angela, now that you’re 50, you’ve had your day and it’s time to make your way.’

“I’m 79 now and I’m not done yet!”

Filming in the Adriatic port city of Bari, in the Puglia region, Italian Gino tells the cameras: “I need fish, and to beat the queues at the market it’s time to turn on the charm.”

As customers wait their turn, Gino finds a willing target for his joke and tells the woman, “I don’t have a number, so let’s go like this – I’m with you. I’ll pretend to be your boyfriend.

“We are number six. Remember, I’m your boyfriend – otherwise I’ll have to line up.”

As eyebrows raise and things threaten to go haywire, Gino defends himself by ingratiating himself with the mystery lady and declaring, “We got engaged this morning.”

He then offers more of the same to the other women in line, before running off with his fish.

I doubt his wife will be too pleased.

You can catch his antics on ITV1 on December 17.
